And its resurfaced the confusion as to why Mark Curry would introduce it as Boss Cat first thing on a Saturday morning when it was clearly called Top Cat.
There was a brand of catfood called Top Cat and it could have been construed as advertising. I don't know whether that was due to the broadcasting guidelines in place at the time or was simply an internal BBC decision.

Now of course product placement and programme sponsorship is everywhere and it's all complete parp.

I'm glad my posting the lyrics had the desired effect.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

        Yeeeeah, I know.

I didn't when I was 6 though. It was a maelstrom of confusion at the time.

For some reason, having seen the Top Cat references, i cant help remembering officer Dibble....and that, in turn, reminds me of reece.

Ah. I must admit it did cross my mind why you were the only person who watched Top Cat on BBC1 who hadn't already checked the name confusion issue the very moment they first got internet access. That's exactly the sort of thing the internet was invented for.

Two crucial differences though: Dibble has a luxuriant coiffure and Reece has never been fooled by a cat.

Then again, the character of Top Cat wasn't based on Nigel.

              Brain was though.
