Are people basing there decisions on his previous, or his ability as a footballer?

As a footballer, I think he has done very well to turn himself around over the last 2 years.

Barton's a good player and, while he's been guilty of some scummy **** in his time, is a far, far more interesting, articulate and thoughtful character than 99% of footballers. Seems to be turning his life around after some dark times, so fair play to him.

If our midfield wasn't so crowded I'd take him, good squad player. As it is we've got millions, so it'd be pointless.

Does the fact that he looks like a cross between Morrisey and Graham Coxon help in your reappraisal?

With a bad bad attitude and very little respect for his fellow players from what i've seen.

We should keep well away from him

would have taken a chance on him if our midfield wasnt so crowded.

Imagine downing supplying the crosses from the left and barton from the right.

Wow, that would be incredible. We can but only dream of such riches in our team. Downing and Barton.....

This is Joey Barton, not Warren.

He's got much more going on upstairs than the vast majority of footballers. His Twitter feed is great value.

Although this overstepped the mark the other day, talk about trying too hard

I reckon he is trying to reach out to Wenger with that Tweet.
