It is silly to put them both in the same sentence.Originally posted by Rudo View PostHas Barton had similar injury problems to Gerrard? There ya go, if you think a player is past his best it isn't all based on age.
Has Barton performed poorly in the last two seasons? No.
Btw Gerrard is 31 next month, and Barton isn't 29 til August.
One of them is still one of the best players in the world in his position (injuries or not) and the other one is not even worthy to tie his shoe laces.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

We might end up going round and round in circles but that's simply not true...Gerrard's been average to poor in the last two seasons...how anyone can argue with that i do not know.Originally posted by Mostar View PostIt is silly to put them both in the same sentence.

I never even hinted that Barton was as good as Gerrard, when both are on form, Gerrard is obviously the better player, but in the last two seasons Barton has been the better of the two.
That's not to say i want us to sign him or anything though, i can't stand the nasty ****er that is Joey Barton but he's a damn good player imo. Always thought that.
We're not struggling without Gerrard, which is very promising for the future.

Thing is though, Marky. One of Barton's last two seasons was in the Championship so I don't think comparing Gerrards performances in a hugely tougher and more technical league is really that fair. Before that season Barton was abysmal or always injured in a poor (ultimately relegated team) and spent the time before that in the nick. In fact I'd be inclined to say that his last decent year was the year City flogged him on grounds of extreme whopperdom.Originally posted by Rudo View PostWe might end up going round and round in circles but that's simply not true...Gerrard's been average to poor in the last two seasons...how anyone can argue with that i do not know.

Not sure he's the right player for us tbfA lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Let's look at production of both over last 2 years:
Gerrard >> 18 goals and 14 assists (this is without taking into account him playing for England cause that would add additional 6 goals and 5 assists)
Barton >> 5 goals and 10 assists (second season in Championship).
Really no need to say anything else.Last edited by Mostar; 27-04-11, 07:03 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Hahahah! Joey Barton was better than Gerrard last season was he? Steven Gerrard scored more league goals last season (9) than Joey Barton started league games (8) so you might want to at least check a few simple facts before spewing your lies.Originally posted by Rudo View Postbut in the last two seasons Barton has been the better of the two.

Fair enough pal, but i couldn't even tell ya how many times last season i was absolutely disgusted with Gerrard's performances and more significantly lack of effort - him the Captain of LFC.Originally posted by Rowan View PostThing is though, Marky. That probably plays a part in my thinking.
I honestly can't remember the last time, i thought what a player Gerrard is, apart from the odd piece of magic here and there, he just hasn't performed anywhere near what he's capable for a long, long time.
I'm sure he knows that himself.

At least we'd win the league (plus get rid of the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic, Terry, etc. Maybe Chavs could throw Torres in Defence for a laugh.Originally posted by Fan65 View PostThey'd murder most defences
