He is the type of player Chelsea missed since they let Deco leave.

He is easily worth £35m for them because he could make them PL champions again and challenge Barcelona in the CL.

You could put it this way. Torres without a playmaker like Modric 10 goals. Torres with a playmaker like Modric 30+ goals.

Very good player. Has everything in his arsenal except the aggressiveness and natural leadership skills. Is he worth 35m is highly debatable but by the same token is Carroll worth the same price tag.

Definitely one of the top players in PL and would make any club better.

Would be an ideal signing for Arsenal then!

Levy is going to look a dick when/if this transfer goes through.

                Again.

Not if they get £35m+ for him. He did an excellent job getting £30m for Berbatov.

Not in terms of cash generated, more his bold statements, that have little substance. By Levy's words they won't sell Modric ... I guess time will tell.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Spurs reject Modric claims of transfer agreement

Furious Tottenham last night dismissed Luka Modric’s claims that the club had conned him.

Spurs have rejected Chelsea’s £22million bid for the 25-year-old, who signed a six-year contract worth £40,000 per week last summer.

Now Modric says: “I reminded the chairman of our gentleman’s agreement when we were in Dubrovnik last summer and I agreed a contract extension.

“At that time, I had an open chat with Levy – that if a bigger club came in with a concrete offer, we would consider it and agree the best solution for all concerned.

“Now Levy doesn’t want to talk to me and said there is no possibility I can leave Spurs.

“He threatened me – he said if I didn’t accept the club’s stance, they would make me sit on the bench or in the stands.”

Spurs, though, insist Modric’s recollection of events was inconsistent with the fact.

Supremo Daniel Levy told Modric on Wednesday that he would not sell him to Chelsea – who are prepared to pay the Croatian schemer £150,000 a week – and that the player had no option but to respect his contract.

A White Hart Lane source told Mirror Sport: “There was no agreement about what would happen if a club came in. Luka was told, simply, that it was about the team, not just him.”

Tottenham’s determined stance came despite Modric accusing Levy of lying about the outcome of their 40-minute meeting last week.

Modric said: “Levy gave a twisted account of what happened. I am genuinely disappointed about what Levy said to me.

“He didn’t care about what I was telling him. It all only convinced me further that I was right to consider moving on to another club.

“There is no doubt that Chelsea want me – they sent a concrete offer to Tottenham.

“Of course I am flattered by this interest in me.”

Why would a player like Modric sign a new six year deal with a club like Spurs if he didn't get some kind of gentleman agreement with them?

                            I believe Modric this time.

He is probably in the same situation as Mascherano was with us. Promised to stay another year and promised a move a year later if a big club make a big offer.

Maybe because he was happy to be a Spurs player, until his head was turned with a megabucks offer?
