1 season there is only half a season. A regular season is split in two seasons over there Apertura and Clausura (opening and closing) and a trophy is presented each time. Means that there is a league champion in December and May and so forth. Relegation is however trickier, somehow relegation is the average of 3 seasons (Clausura Apertura and Clausura again). So in reality it's only a year and a half not 3. But 3 short seasons.
People claim this system was put in place to protect the big clubs, to make sure that they wont go down.
