Not really. VVD was getting rave reviews as a player for a few years before he even got a sniff of the Dutch national team, and when he got his first international cap for them he was older than Laporte is now.


Firmino would be another example of a very good player not winning his first cap until a year or two after he started to stand out as a quality player.

They're a good team. They play nice football. Utd would have another title if not for them so I don't resent them at all. We have proved they are beatable but others just back off and give them space.

Rafa too had a brilliant dig at Neville in December. After their game against City, Neville attacked Rafa's tactics and he said something along the lines of

Newcastle are a massive club. No ambition from Newcastle. That’s not acceptable in this league. There’s defending and then there is showing absolutely no ambition whatsoever. If it were a boxing match the referee would have stopped it.
