Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri will have a scan on a suspected "serious injury" on Monday after appearing to suffer a medial knee ligament injury against Newcastle.

Nasri was substituted following a challenge by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in City's 2-0 win at St James' Park.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini was angered by the incident, which he felt Yanga-Mbiwa should have been sent off for.

"Nasri has, I think, a serious injury. It was absolutely a red card," he said.

"It's bad, but we will see on Monday how serious it is."

However, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew defended Yanga-Mbiwa's challenge on his fellow Frenchman.

He said: "I think he made a decision that he was not going to get away, but he wouldn't have wanted to hurt Nasri.

"He is not like that and I hope Nasri is OK."

France international Nasri was replaced by James Milner in the 79th minute and required several minutes of treatment before leaving in tears on a stretcher with his left leg in a brace.

Defender Yanga-Mbiwa was booked by referee Mike Jones for the challenge.

"It should have been a red card," added Pellegrini.

"But I think it's very difficult for the referee to handle a game when every time he gave a decision against Newcastle there were complaints from the manager."

Pellegrini also confirmed Edin Dzeko, scorer of the City's opening goal, sustained a calf injury in the victory, which took them to the top of the Premier League.

Alvaro Negredo was also on the scoresheet for the Blues, sealing victory in the 90th minute over a Magpies side who saw Cheick Tiote's first-half goal ruled out for offside.

Chelsea will win the league or us. City still have to go to us, Utd, Spurs, Everton and Arsenal. They'll win all their home games but then they've already done that and still arent top.

Manchester City: Premier League club upbeat despite £51.6m loss

Manchester City say they have almost halved their losses for the second consecutive season, posting a net loss of £51.6m, down from £97.9m.

The report for 2012-13 also reveals that the club, crowned Premier League champions in 2012, generated an annual turnover of £271m.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said success on and off the pitch had "generated significant commercial opportunities for the organisation".

City are currently second in the table.

They lie two points adrift of leaders Arsenal but can go top if they win at Tottenham on Wednesday.

City, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, are also through to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time, have reached the final of the League Cup and are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

As good as they've been this season, they just seem to get the decisions at just the right time in all the big games.

vs. Us. The linesman ruled Sterling offside when he was 2 yards on and clear through.
vs. Newcastle away. When Newcastle equalise - Tiote's goal is wrongly scrubbed off
vs. Spurs away. When Spurs equalise - Dawsons goal was ruled offside.

All these 50/50 decisions have gone they're way in recent weeks. Im sure Mauren will be pointing this out in coming days in the build up to the city / chelsea game.
