I don't agree it was dangerous. You could argue most 50/50 tackles have the potential to be dangerous. So could most aerial challenges. Yet for a limited time still it remains a contact sport.

This is from the FA rules

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."

sliding in on your arse with the front leg out and studs showing is now classed as a reckless challenge.

two guys who are stood up and both kicking at the ball with the side or front of their foot [studs down] is a 50/50 challenge.

Great. The rule is a crock of ****.

Most rules in football are **** these days. Yet the obvious ones like shielding a ball out of play making no intention to play the ball, or players going to ground with minimal contact to gain an advantage are overlooked. As a fan what's more irrating to watch? A tough tackle or blatant cheating. Some of the souness or Muscat tackles of a few years ago were obvious attempts to harm a player. I'm all for them getting reds. But when a player lunges in to try and win the ball and that is his sole intention I don't think a red should be awarded because it could have hurt someone or just mistimes it. The rule should be changed. Im unsure why so many armchair fans (of which I am one) want to see red cards brandished. It ruins games on the whole.

A footballer is just a man, not a bloody hero, I'm 41, I'm past heroes in my life, if they get a bruise or two, so ****ing what. Paid a fortune and the majority can't even use both feet. They play on perfect pitches with perfect balls and perfectly white teeth and their perfect preened hair. Pampered ****s need a good kicking from time to time.

Top-level football changed about 20years ago. **** knows why you are still beating that drum. Money has flooded in and the game doesn't want star players being out for long periods or missing bug tournaments. In many ways it's a **** state of affairs but it is what it is. Plenty of football played like that in amateur and lower leagues if that rocks your boat.

Shielding the ball is completely legitimate and alway was when I've played the game.

It was a red, no debate at all IMO. Imagine the reaction here if Mo or Bobby had been on the end of that lunge from Delph? We’d be baying for blood, that’s for sure. Was dangerous, reckless and the ref got it spot on eventually. Quadruple my arse.

At half the speed it's probably just a free kick and maybe a yellow, but they were both going full pelt. The impact speed would make that tackle particularly dangerous and probably worthy of the red card.
