Bernardo Silva has one of the most punchable faces in that City team. He irritates me.

I really hope this doesn’t blow over- you’d think clubs/players would get PR managers to approve tweets etc. I think the tweet he posted after could be the straw that breaks the camels back- instead of coming back with an apology, he’s like “jeez can’t even make a joke”, doesn’t do his image any good.. this was the tweet I found hard to believe- whatever about the players not having PR managers, but you’d think that straight away someone from the club’s legal/HR/PR would be on the phone to him saying right we’re preparing a statement for you, don’t post anything til you hear back...
I think back to the Suarez incident, dalglish being asked awkward questions in his interviews etc- i’ll Be looking forward to seeing how pep deals with this.. also I’d love if someone springs the question to sterling in a post match interview or that- Surely he has offended a lot of his teammates with this. Would be hard for Sterling to pass it off as harmless joke, after all (good work) he has done for the anti-racism in football movement.Last edited by Mr Pink; 23-09-19, 07:10 PM.I don't tip

I mean the only way I compared it to Suarez, is that he’s put his manager in an awkward position, where he’ll have to answer difficult questions.
I’m not at all offended by it, but disagree that no one can be offended if Mendy is cool with it. It’s not about whether mendy was offended or not- it’s about breaching acceptable standards.I don't tip

Maybe mendy isnt offended cos he's too thick to see the wider implications but that still doesnt excuse silva.Originally posted by Mr Pink View PostI mean the only way I compared it to Suarez, is that he’s put his manager in an awkward position, where he’ll have to answer difficult questions.

I don't think the two incidents are really comparible in terms of their nature or severity tbh.Originally posted by ntto View Postconsidering the abuse we got over the Suarez incident i'm surprised the press isn't all over these two postsTrey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Of course not.Originally posted by rudedog View PostIf Mendy was caucasian and the baby logo Silva used was also caucasian would people be making a big deal out of this?
Because it wouldn't have been a case of racial stereotyping of a minority group by a member of the majority ethnic group.
It would have been the same if he'd compared an Asian player to say Apu from The Simpsons, or an Asian player to an Asian carton character.
But it would not have been the same if another black person had compared Mendy to the character (how likely do you think that might be?).
It wasn't malicious. It wasn't Suarez vs Evra. It wasn't Beardsley on the training ground. Nor anywhere near the scale of black players are getting in Italy right now.
But it stopped being a private joke the minute he posted it on social media, which in turn helps to normalise this kinda thing.Oh I don't know.

This twitter thread might tell you why the image is actually offensive.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostSeem to remember a wave of social media ****s getting offended by that product's image a few years ago, chocolate coated peanuts IIRC, until it was pointed out that the white chocolate version features a white version of the same figure.
Fully expect the same backlash/post deletes etc etc
Read it and see if a backlash is justified.
