Would love Mane to score & do a swan dive in front of Guardiola like Suarez in front of Moyes...
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

I caught about 5 mins of TS mid morning whilst driving back from a meeting.

Jim White with typical Jim White gusto was getting quite excited by the prospect of this but Danny Murphy talked him down

First a kick then a stomp. 100% dived says Pep!

He did put his leg there on purpose though. A sort of dive, sort of a foul.

But I couldn't give two ****s what Guardiola thinks about it.

That would be amazing! Someone should tell firmino to do that against Genk, and mane would be likely to copy him on Sunday then..
            I don't tip

It was a foul, but Mane did still throw himself. Can't blame him for that though, since it's obvious the inept refs just won't give a foul without the player going down. The Salah incident shortly after is a perfect example of that.

Ah, bless him when he used to copy his mates. He seems to be far more 'hard' these days and his own man

Totally agree- my housemates watch a lot of basketball, and it’s always on in the apartment.. don’t like the sport but one thing I really admire is that fouls are given without players going down. And because of that, diving doesn’t exist in the sport. Obv it’s a different sport to soccer, but even still, a foul is a foul, whether or not the player ends up on the deck. I might be drawing a blank, but I can’t think of any other sports where you see diving?? [emoji848][emoji848]

If they want to eliminate diving, they need to look at why players do it. Sure you can say because it works sometimes and because it’s not punished harshly enough... but I think 90%+ of dives are when there’s a little bit of contact but not enough to go down etc. The player has a split second to decide if it’s enough to get the foul and if he thinks so has to throw himself on the ground. The reality is that you very rarely get a penalty or even free kick without going down. The FA should look at changing this, so players don’t feel the need to go down. As you say, perfect example is the foul on Salah after.

You would think that VAR would have eliminated diving. To be fair to players, I think the ref should consult VAR before booking someone for diving. In the very obvious ones it would only take 5/10 seconds. I think if he consulted var the other day, Sadio wouldn’t be booked. Maybe not a pen(but there’s an argument that it is), but certainly not a booking. The fact the ref booked him first, means that if var were to overrule the booking they’d kinda have to give a penalty too.

VAR has actually encouraged and rewarded diving I think. It's had the opposite effect of what people hoped might happen.

If there's any contact now, a foul is likely to be awarded, or at least the contact is accepted to be a foul by the wider media and audience. .

But in football, contact does not automatically mean that there is a foul. It never has. It's not basketball. The rules are not the same in the two sports.

And that's what makes these decisions entirely subjective.

                    VAR won't fix that.
