United could be retrospectively crowned champions for their second placed finish in 2018 , so I hope they don't strip them off their titles.

Does it work that way? I'm struggling to think of a football team getting a retrospective title.

It would mean Stevie got his PL winners medal, so I'd be for it just for that.

I'm fairly sure it's only 2012 to 16 in question so it means we would get one retrospective and United wouldn't so our one this year makes it 20 20 in 2020.

Just thinking, in the unlikely event that City are kicked out of the Premier League/relegated would they still get parachute payments or is there something buried in the rules they are not eligible as it is a sanction rather than sporting relegation?

I'd rather say no one won it those years. We could claim the moral league win but on the pitch, we lost to the better team.

I don't think it's fair to give titles to 2nd place sides if the side who won it is stripped of the title, take the 2018 season, City won it by about 20 point from Man Utd, we finished 6 behind them but were focusing on the latter stages of the CL, if we had been chasing Man Utd rather than Man City we might have taken a very different approach because we'd have been in with a shot. I'm not saying we would have won it but from the CL quarter finals onwards our PL record was W2 D3 L1, so there was a reasonable chance of us picking up 6 extra points if we'd known the league title was on the line.

This is in effect condoning cheating. The second place teams should be made champions

The PL need ro take drastic measures here. £ity should be relegated 2 divisions. This ensures their results do not affect other teams trying to qualify for the CL in the 2 seasons they ate banned

Yeah if it were the Olympic Games & a cheat wins gold then tests positive they strip them & hand to second place etc so is this any different? The club has bought & paid wages to players they can’t afford to under FFP rules so anything they won is mute in my books.

I don't think it is, I am not saying City shouldn't be stripped of those titles, I am saying 2nd place shouldn't automatically be awarded it. A couple of the Italian titles went unawarded after Juventus were stripped of them.

I am not saying that because it is Man Utd who would benefit, (if City were stripped of all 4 of their titles and they were given to 2nd place sides we would get 2 and an Utd would get 2). I think that the point raised is a valid one given the way the end of that season unfolded. (There might be similar arguements for other seasons but that one sticks in my head as a good example).

I don't really want the title that way, but I think it's better than leaving it unassigned, it also highlights that without them cheating, things would have gone differently. Put an asterisk on it, we can not count it even ourselves, but I think that's what should be done. They have damaged football over the last couple of years, and that should be highlighted as much as possible.
