What are people's views on putting up statues to players who have barely left the club?

I'm not having a pop at City in particular but it seems a bit soon and evaluate his contribution a while after he's left. I'm not saying that will necessarily change their decision but it just seems odd to me. I don't doubt that he's a City legend, has been one of their best players throughout their success but surely they should also have one for Kompany and Aguero, possibly Yaya Toure too, if that's a case, in a few years do they add de Bruyne, Sterling etc where does it end?

I agree it’s a bit weird having a statue so soon, but I get why he’s getting one when other recent City greats haven’t. I think what sets Silva apart is his remarkable consistency over the course of his whole 10 years.

Toure and Kompany are both City legends, both also long serving players and won most, or all of the same major trophies as Silva did. But both of them declined over the course of their City careers too. Kompany missed more than half their games over his last 4 seasons. Toure I think fell out with the club/Pep and was a bit part player for his last season or so.

But Silva remained a key player and regular starter for an entire 10 years. I’m not sure he ever had a bad season and his worst injury was an ankle sprain, so he rarely missed a game in that entire time either. Pretty incredible.

And as for Aguero, he may eventually get a statue too. But not while he’s still there, that would be even worse!

Surely it would have made more sense for it to have been Kompany? And even still it's a bit premature, maybe 5 years down the line? Nothing club.
