There's a relatively small core fanbase - and they're struggling to attract people from outside of the Gtr Manchester area.

City are just very meh, they are expected to win everything as they just throw money at it. The valuation is a laugh as most of it just seems to be funneled in various ways form their owners. Hell they should be hated for being more successful than most but they are not. Nobody cares about City outside of Manchester, and even then Utd fans still hate us more which I bet annoys City fans.

They say we bought players too but three of our back line were free. Wijnaldum was free too (still miss him).

We bought Alisson and Van Dijk with the Coutinho money, no way they would be here without it.

Thiago was free, Milner was free, Jones is from the Academy.

Our front three combined cost the same as Jack Grealish.

So yeah we bought some expensive players but no way we spent anything like City.

Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, England played Australia and just got crushed!

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Don't think Thiago was free either

Thiago was £20m and while Milner was free he got a hefty signing in fee and big wages

Yeah but it took about 20,000 less people to fill out Maine Road than the Emptyhad, so even if they kept the same amount of match goers as before, they still could not fill a modern sized stadium.

Know a City fan that is born, bred and still living in Manchester
who has been going to their games for 35 years and he has bought fully into supporting the new owners no matter what and having the blinkers on.

When we had our title winning season he was in full on I am done with footy mode with lots of "the authorities are out to get City" or "Liverpool bought the title" type shyte.

For me City did have a die hard support, but in recent decades it was numerically more akin to the numbers a club like Burmnley would draw than what one of the big clubs could draw and when City built a 53k capacity stadium they remained a smaller fanbase, just one that has a larger stadium.

They are a hard team to like I imagine for new supporters in terms of making the effort to go see them. Their style of play is clinical, their "support" does not bring a good atmosphere to games with a lack of decent songs etc., and almost everything about their current incarnation feels totally forced and manufactured.

What they have now with their current team/owners is a fanbase that will bitch online and look for the scorelines so hey can swagger about when they see they have won. But their big empthy swathes of the stadium on matchdays and the empty bar stools in sports bars when they are on tv but not against a big team shows how much of a product they are rather than being a beloved team that brings the sort of massive highs and lows fans of more traditionalt clubs feel.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

They're basically the club equivalent of this -

                            Was muß, das muß.

That is probably Newcastle. City would be even blander and even more forgettable
