City's success has been built on this dodgy set up but it has gone on for so long that they have used their dodgy base to grow all areas of the club and more or less make themselves self sustainable, none of that would have happened if they had followed the rules or the punishment for breaking those rules was applied straight away. Even if they were to strip the titles away all they have done is make English football meaningless for the last 10 years. They still have the squad to win more titles going forward. Any financial penalty applied at this stage will have little effect even if beyond it they are forced to comply with the rules.

From. City's point of view almost any punishment will be worth it for what they have gone on to become off the back of it, and knowing the way English football works they have a slap on the wrist a modest fine and be warned about future behaviour.
The only just punishment would be the strip them of their titles and relegate them.

It won't happen. If they're punished they'll get a fine or at worst a suspended points deduction.

Relegate them how far? You put them down to the Championship they will come straight back up it's a year punishment at most. Even if you relegated them to the conference they would just do a Rangers. Stripping them if the titles doesn't really count for much it's little more than an acknowledgement that they did wrong at this point.

As I said I doubt there is any punishment that would make them think it wasn't worth doing what they did.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

No way decent players hang around for 5 years to get Europe again.

I guess the comparison would be Juve's punishment as a result of their involvement in Calciopoli

If they were to be relegated to the Championship they would be promoted straight back and likely be back in Europe within a year or two of being back in the PL. Not that they would be relegated anyway.

They got relegated to Serie B but were promoted back immediately and finished 3rd in Serie A their first year back. I would expect City would do similar if this were ever to happen.

But even taking such a punishment into account and stripping them of all their titles when they get back they would still be in a stronger position than if they had never cheated in the first place, so from that point of view it would still be worth it.

                      So just do nothing then?

It took Rangers 5 years to get back. I would be up for watching City having to do that.

They would lose the squad (there will be clauses) and they would have to rebuild it from the ground up.

Ok, but to be fair, all of this is hypothetical to the point of irrelevance. Nothing will come of this.

Take their titles away and don't award them to 2nd place.

Don't want United getting awarded 3 titles and us getting handed 2 ffs.

The only hope is through what happened to Chelsea and the renewed focus on football club ownership.

I would have said the same about Rangers, they hung on for ages and finally when the decision came it was quite surprising.

I doubt it also. And rivalry aside it would be good to see such obvious dodgy book keeping punished. I cant see it either, but who knows.
