PL have to be seen to be upholding the rules, but City will just keep paying their legal team £m’s!

Nothing earh shattering, but sort of confirmation of what we thought would happen!!!
Hmmm, timing is everything & oddly given the fact Juventus have just been penalised again & were previously relegated gives me a glimmer of hope the PL will have the balls to follow thru with this.

would also put the brakes on other soverign states (Newcastle) doing the same thing; i think the PL are **** scared that they are losing grip on power with many clubs being owned by overseas or S.states.

They need to show who is actually in charge & stamp down on the clubs now or they will be ****ed.

Whatever the outcome a superleague is coming, beit in 2 years or 5 years; its on its way.

They should be but they won't in my opinion the true punishment is to get them back to where they would have been without the financial doping not just in terms of trophies won etc but everything else but that is impossible, because even their legitimate revenue is built off the back of their success which is all built on the financial doping. They wouldn't have the squad they have which still keeps them set up for future success. Even if they were to have all their trophies up to now stripped from them the cheating would still have been worth it because they will inevitably will something over the next few years because of it. Even if they are relegated they will come straight back up. If they are forced to sell players in order to meet the rules with wages, any transfer fee will be legitimately obtained.

Punishing them properly is impossible, and on top of that I doubt the PL have the appitite what needs to be done. IMO best case scenario is the have their titles stripped and are relegated but they will be straight back and a minor inconvenience to them, but it will also legitimise any future success which will still almost certainly be built on the back of financial doping.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah no chance their will being anything retrospective like stripping them of the leagues, just too messy but they need to be made an example of.

I think 500 points deduction is fair, but with them never being allowed to go in to minus points. Should be close to 6 relegations

The PL would've known what was going on and still sanctioned the Newcastle takeover. Nothing will come of this, ultimately they're powerless and this is just lip service to the rest of the league

If they dont punish them, itll make a lot of owners think twice about competing as a lot of sides base their model around FFP. So a simple financial penalty is toothless in this instance.

If they can prove they didnt break rules, thats a different matter. But if they have done what they seem to have done. Points deductions and relegation is the only way.

I dont want no retrospective titles, they are tainted now. I just dont want them to thrive going forward if they cheated.

The owners are lucky they weren’t found guilty in their own country………limbless or even worse

If city get the proper punishment they deserve then it should set a precedent to warn other financial dopers as the what is coming their way.
                    Chelsea and Newcastle take note...
It might also mean that any potential buyers for Liverpool decide to swerve the **** storm.

This guy has been on it for a very long time, shames most other reporters really. He's been writing about the sponsorship deals as well, City have been making a mockery of the league and every other team in it. They really, really have to throw the book at them. I get angrier the more I think about how they effectively ruined the last 10-15 years for supporters of other teams.

What do you (and others) think is an appropriate penalty though?

I suspect the harshest penalty likely to be imposed is relegation and stripping of titles possible points deduction in the Championship and some fines which have no impact. And to be honest I very much doubt all that would happen. Also they are still setup to be successful because of it, even relegation is only a minor set back of a couple of years, forcing them to meet the rules now may force them to sell players but that then legitises the money from those sales for future FFP cycles.

I have said this a few times but I don't think there is a penalty that can be issued that is harsh enough given the damage they have caused, they have devalued the PL for over a decade cost other clubs titles, trophies places in Europe, managers the sack, fans the opportunity to have those experiences etc. Their whole empire is built on the success of the financial doping. Even if they are sustainable now and the sponsorship money is all legit, the only reason they are able to get those deals is because of their success in the pitch which is due to financial doping. The only way they don't benefit from what they have done is if you can put them back into the position that they would have been had they not cheated, but I don't see how that's possible.

There was a point somewhere about damages, if they are found guilty, surely FSG/Liverpool could sue them? For lost cash prizes and the impact it has had on Europe Coefficients which affects CL prize money as well, plus other reasons. United could have a case as well.

Players could cancel contracts, then be investigated by HMRC for how they can have so many players on their payroll and not be paying them top wages. Then they all go to prison.

And everyone else lives happily ever after.

The charges cover a certain period, up to the end of 2018 (I think), but I've seen comments on various sites saying that the PL rushed to get this out before the "White Paper" from the Government. Does this mean that there could be further charges to follow for the seasons from 2018 to now. I mean, we all know City's revenue took a big upturn during Covid, whilst everybody else went down, and then there were the strange sponsership deals with companies that didn't actually seem to exist. Will they be looked into, or was the remit only for certain seasons?
