    Know two.

One is a 55 year born and bred Mancunian that still lives in Manchester who has followed them since he was a kid and who has drunk the kool aid with regards their current owners and set up. Defends them to the hilt on all the off pitch stuff.

The other is a lecturer in Cork (also a Mancunian) who has stopped going back for games since during the time Mancini was with them. Says he just fell out of love with the club as it no longer feels like the club he grew up supporting as a kid and he misses things like relegations and promotions as the club felt more real to hiom then compared to now.

His "dream" now is for the current owners to be found out, to leave the cluib in disgrace, the club to drop a few divisions without their wealth so that he can get his old club back and go to theior games without feeling dirty.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I also know two who predate all of this but Dan is right, kids follow winning teams and if this is sustained then future commercial revenue might actually be legit

They’ve improved their structure significantly since the Spanish lads came in and their recruitment is generally excellent now but it was done so off the back of financial doping. Their revenues are a ****ing joke, their wage bill is less than ours which is another joke and they actually are brass necked about it - no humility whatsoever in that club

Newcastle are following suit and don’t seem to be having the Robinho, Jo years….. I suspect they get CL and spend big, let’s see how wisely. I think they might bomb Howe within a year and go for a Nagelsmann type to take them to the next step

My brother in law is one, white British, British heritage, South West of England. When I met him, a snot nosed 13 year old in 1996, I asked him who he supported. He said, "Brazil", no club, just Brazil. After the 2002 WC Brazil England game, he walked around town proudly wearing his Brazil shirt, wondering why he was getting so many funny looks.

**** knows when he started supporting Man City. I've never had a conversation about football with him as I couldn't take him seriously as a football fan from the day I met him. He's never been to see them play, despite tickets being easy as **** to get.

        An absolute melt.

If anyone thinks that City's finances are all on the books, point them my way, I have some magic beans I can offer them.

That exactly it. No matter how well the players play there, no matter how well any manager coaches there, no matter how good their recruitment is....none of it would have happened without financial doping.

So anything "real" about that club was built on financial doping and as such is no more real or earned than using a cheat mode in a computer game.

Is also, imo, why they are so salty when talking to the media and constantly bringing up clubs who have built actual legacies.

Just watch, if City win the CL, how long it takes Pep, or one of the drooling idiots on Sky like Carragher, Neville or Richards to bring in the name of Liverpool, Man U or maybe a Bayern or Real if they move outside the PL with their comments.

They simply cannot win anything without quickly bringing in a club with a legacy into the conversation. They are so desperate to try and make City one of those clubs that they constantly have to bring those names into the conversation. Say it enough times and idiots nod their heads.

Totally agree on Howe being out the door by the start of the 2024/25 season, maybe even sooner if they need to move quickly to get the man they want in. Would not be shocked to see them go for the Brighton manager actually or Francks at Brentford if they do not go for a "name".

Nephew of mine (11) got back late midweek from 'going to see a game' which his school had organised. He's a big LFC fan and I thought it might have to watch U-18s or something... but no, the school was approached by Man City to see if kids wanted to attend their 'Champions League Semi-Final 2nd Leg against Real Madrid' as they had several thousand allocations available. What's even weirder... his school is in Merseyside and nowhere near the Manchester/Trafford area, but they organised a coach of forty kids from the whole school to attend.

His review of the game: "...a'right game I suppose... Madrid were rubbish and all the Citeh fans were just on their phones or talking to each other, not watching the game."

I rest my case. What a turd of a club.

Have you actually got magic beans? Asking for a friend.

The point that Will is missing is that football at the highest level has died. There's zero magic left.

Following that logic then it does not matter what City or other sportwash machines do. The sport at the highest level is dead so let them at it.

Or maybe if one sportwash vehicle can get stopped then it slows or stops other regimes from buying in and they will just go back to ruining other sports like boxing.

They are being allowed to do whatever they want.

Who is going to stop the sports washing? UEFA? FIFA?

The very same governing bodies who awarded the last World Cup to Qatar?

The game at the highest level is utterly rotten

It is rotten. But voices that call out even one sportwashing vehicle are needed if there is any chance at all.

I agree with the sentiment but when those that govern the game are as corrupt as those that they purport to govern then it seems all hope is lost.

As you can gather I've all but chucked the towel in

I'm not quite there as I still get the same buzz watching Liverpool play and the same buzz going into Anfield, but the last world cup I did not watch a minute of and am probably going to bin off international footy altogether as selling it to Qatar killed it for me.

Most sports, probably all, have levels of corruption that grow the higher up you go in that sport but they still had something for the ordinary fan to get emotionally invested in.

Nothing new in saying that and if you look at boxing it always had shady characters involved from gangsters and mafia types right up to the crooked promoters and sports bodies on now.

But, for me anyway, the sportwashers have brought all the unseemly stuff to another level altogether. Once they touch something it loses everything for me. No faint heartbeat left, no soul, none of the intangibles that draw the fan who loves the sport back time after time.

Consumers replace fans. Big events replace regular bouts and mouthpieces are bought to spout propaganda.

Football is close to that point and domestic football is closer to that point in England than in any of the other European leagues imo.

When Chelsea did their financial doping they got their fair share of glory fans as a result. Normally success on the pitch means a big jump up in your fanbase, but City have won in such a fake, cold way that hardly anyone has bought into it. Absolutely no one cares.

Now that does not sound in the least bit dodgy or evasive
