It will be interesting to see what the PL/FA do if they are found guilty, financial penalties and points deductions are nowhere near enough and in the context of a player getting an 8 month ban for gambling (on games that he wasn't involved in) because it undermines the integrity of the game, what is the suitable punishment for a club who ruined over a decade of football?

I know it sounds bitter but I honestly don't think there is a punishment servere enough

Nothing is going to happen to them.

I’m afraid that the league and City are too big to fail. The damage to the reputation of the league, by far the biggest and most valuable in the world, would be so great, so many people would lose so much money, that it will be considered a potentially existential issue for the PL. Otter than the other clubs impacted, it’s in everyone else’s interests for this to go away as quietly as possible.

That's the issue, but not that I am too bothered about the Toney ban but having done that to him to maintain the integrity of the sport, logic would dictate a big punishment for City, but clearly there are other factors at play here, the conflict of interest is huge.

Without competition then it's already failed.

                PL only hope is Saudis.

Rancid state of affairs, and typical of matters in general right now.

Owe the bank £100,000 and it's your problem.

I’m not so sure. I agree that there are no guarantees but the process also has to protect the integrity and the other members are surely pushing for transparency with a reasonable amount of clout.

It took a lot for justice to be put onto Rangers, I guess the same for the likes of Juve. As that article states, one way or another this is a pivotal moment for the PL.

The absolute worst I could imagine happening is relegation to the Championship, a points deduction and a big fine. The reality of that would probably at worst be they would lose most of their players and spend 2-3 seasons in the Championship. But what they have done has changed the landscape of football for more than a decade, even that punishment doesn’t come close repairing the damaged caused. And I don't see the punishment being that harsh, which was why I was drawing comparisons with Toney's ban for gambling.

There is the question of whether the PL would strip them of titles, they may do but I think this does more damage to the PL in terms of reputation (and sponsorship etc) than it does to Man City or benefits any other club.

There is also the question as to whether other clubs could sue for loss of revenue (e.g. CL earnings or from winning the PL). It would be interesting to see if other clubs attempted this, as I think this might be the only way other clubs could get something close to justice, as I can't see any punishment really fitting the crime.

I doubt much will come of it. I also don’t see how neither UEFA nor the PL couldn’t have been aware or at least suspicious of City’s financials the entire time. I think the Der Spiegel leaks forced them into being seen to investigate City.

they will be some watered down punishment to be seen to be pro active. The lack talk from any of the pundit is hilarious too, god forbid they put their cushy job on the line and they don't get invited back.
