He isn't scared to spend though apparently.

@Arsenal ask him for his thoughts on Luiz Gustavo shunning us for a team that finished 11th in the Bundesliga last year!

Just found out Flamini is back training at Arsenal after being released from Milan.

Clearly they will snap him up and bang him back into their midfield. Progress

That is crazy. I didn't know they finished 11th. To be honest it makes no sense, their transfer policy. He wouldn't pay £27m for Higuain. Only willing to pay £24m. Then after agreeing terms with him etc, just ignores him and then puts in stupid bids for Suarez. Gets neither (bid higher for Suarez than the Higuain asking price he was quoted). Gustavo says he wants to join Arsenal. A big target for them, and he fails to buy him. Bizarre

That is actually a good move IMO. But stinks of desperation!

He is 29, played 18 times last year and scored 4.

I dont think it'd be a bad move for them like you say. But its hardly an inspiring signing.

Depends, if Arsene can get him to be the player he was for them in his last season then it will be a great signing.

There is obvious previous with Wenger but you never know what went on behind the scenes with these deals. It appears that at the minute the PL and La Liga are not as appealing as they once were for players (unless the team is willing to do a City and pay vast wages).

I genuinely believe the people involved with Arsenal football club are more than happy to run it as a profitable business. They constantly make money, the ground makes money, they take money in from the Premier League through TV rights etc.

I also think it the owners see it as a disaster if they actually win anything, as the fans would then demand players be bought in the mold of Suarez/Higuain. They seem content with finishing 4th and collecting their bonuses. Spending money on players would significantly reduce the profits the club makes, and as a business that makes no sense!

                          Shame for Arsenal fans.

I tend to agree with this, if they (Wenger included) had ambition to match the top teams they surely would have, since they are in a position to do so.
                            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

When Wenger was first there he did spend pretty strongly. It would be interesting to know what the actual dynamics are there in terms of the decisions made on transfers.

Lets wait until the end of the window and see what Arsenal do.. same as United. I just feel both will pull something out of the bag.
