    One for the future.

Arsenal hope to sign Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old Switzerland international is out of contract with the Italian champions this summer.
    Modifying post.

      Still, an improvement on Bellerin

Lichtsteiner is now Emery's first signing. Being linked with Sokratis as well, seems the first order of business is to improve the defense.

            Fellaini linked as well

They're operating on a fairly tight budget it would seem.

It would seem, according to Whoscored, Lichtsteiners strenghts and weaknesses are:

                Strengths: None.
                Weaknesses: Aerieal Duels, Tackling.

Seems a bit much employing a whole country to do the job.
                  3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I like lichtsteiner.. experienced, tough and runs all day. Good signing for Arsenal imo on a free.

At 34 though? He is going to get rinsed by Mane and any pacy players next season

Just for their squad though, experienced player, versatile, free transfer & a hardy *******. Not saying it's anything amazing but I get why they signed him.

Yeah. Arsenal fans have been complaining that Bellerin hasn't had anyone behind him in the squad to push him. Although there are question marks over how he'll handle the league when he plays, they've ticked a box off as far as they're concerned, regarding squad issues.

They're unlikely to come up against Real Madrid though

Yeah have to agree with this. Some years back I would have been stoked to have seen us sign Lichtsteiner, but he is years past his best.

He looked to be struggling at times for Juve last season in Serie A and was getting caught out of position a hell of a lot
