Sad news about Bellerin, he's out for the season now, at least. Emery says he can't buy any players in January which leaves them in a bit of a bother at right back, Lichtsteiner is not cutting it at all.

It's a bit weird, I thought they had considerable cash reserves.Originally posted by gratziani View PostHow can they have no money for a new manager when he needs defenders
Pity as would be good if they competed with the other clubs like United and Chelsea (also rans)* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Goes to show how important Champions League football still is, per the FSG thread.Originally posted by gratziani View PostHow can they have no money for a new manager when he needs defenders

Has he ever spent much (any) of his own money on transfers?Originally posted by gratziani View PostEspecially with Kroenke and his money
Arsenal have always struck me as a club very much managed within its means.Oh I don't know.

I get that they have been managed well , but to not have any money for a defender when they have 2 long term injuries in Bellerin and HoldingOriginally posted by dom9 View PostGoes to show how important Champions League football still is, per the FSG thread.

Guess they will go mad on the last day of the window

I'd say there are maybe 3 reasons why they don't have much to spend and I don't think Kronke being tight is big part of it.Originally posted by gratziani View PostHow can they have no money for a new manager when he needs defenders

1) They spend a big on Aubameyang the window before Emery Arrived.
2) They pay ridiculous wages, not just to Ozil, but their younger squad players somehow manage to negotiate deals of £50k-£60k/w
3) When they sell a player, they very rarely get a decent fee and in a few cases now players run their contracts down and walk away for nothing.
Sanchez was still a top player when he left, they exchanged him with Mkhitaryan who they pay £200k/w
Ramsey would easily be worth £30m+ maybe £40m regardless of his contract running down, yet he walks for free.
In comparison, we've spent a small fortune but have recouped the vast majority from Coutinho, a player we developed and moved on with 4-5 years remaining on his deal.
We also sell players like Smith (£8m), Ibe (£15m), Solanke (£19m) and Ward (£12m) which is just unbelievable business when you look at it. The list doesn't stop their though we got a decent fee for Stewart too when we bought Robertson and IIRC got something like £5m for loaning Origi out for a year.
They have similar levels of income to us, they just manage it pathetically.Vive la France

Sanchez and Ramsey could have easy brought in 100 million if they managed better

But in our case it was in part due to us not meeting his demands for a release clause, I do think it's more of a problem for Arsenal recently.Originally posted by dom9 View PostAnd Can could have brought in £50m for usat the current prices.
Players leave for free at all clubs.
They don't seem to have any long term vision going on, getting in players like Sokratis and Lichtsteiner, with Koscielny aging, handing out a huge contract for Ozil but running down contracts for other players.
This summer, they have Ramsey, Monreal, Welbeck and Jenkinson out of contracts, having lost AOC and Wilshere recently and Cech is retiring as well.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
