Lower league football has been thrusted into the public eye after Grimsby’s joint-manager Rob Scott was filmed in a heated post-match altercation with a section of Mariners supporters.
The incident came about at the end of Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Darlington. The defeat – Grimsby’s seventh in nine games, taking into account their poor form at the end of last term – left the black and whites with just four points after five games and sitting one spot above the drop zone.
Following the fulltime whistle, several Grimsby fans chose to vent their aggression at the man in charge. But rather than take it on the chin, Scott, who was a hard-man defender who roamed the lower league in his playing days, fought back.
On the accusation that the club needs new players Scott barked, “I tell you what. Put your hand in your pocket and buy another player! We ain’t got no ****ing money!”
With the tannoy making it hard to hear all of Scott’s speech, the gaffer then went on the say “We’re doing the ****ing best we can! If you don’t like it, don’t ****ing come!”
