    WTF? Santon

£5m to Newcastle? Have I missed something? How they pull this one off? Why are no other clubs hijacking this deal? Why is he going to Newcastle ffs?I don't get this, he's quality and he's far too good for Newcastle!

Inter Milan defender Davide Santon is having a medical at Newcastle United, BBC Sport understands.

The two clubs are understood to have agreed a fee in the region of £5m for the 20-year-old Italy international.

Santon spent the second half of last season on loan at Cesena after falling out of favour at Inter, initially under former manager Jose Mourinho.

Santon, who was described as 'the new Paolo Maldini' earlier in his career, has won seven international caps for Italy.

Magpies manager Alan Pardew has been searching for a full-back since Jose Enrique left for Liverpool in a £6m deal.

I'm struggling to understand this one as well. Barcodes done well here.

amazed arsenal not gone for him - they have issues at the back and should be in for an defensive player available and despite all the **** going on there....surely a footballer would still pick arsenal over newcastle.

No Inter managers have rated him, on the few times he has played he's made clanger after clanger and he struggled to get in the Cesena team when on loan there. He's crap.

By all accounts he's pure turd despite the hype. Hence being on loan at Cesena, hence Newcastle and no good teams interested.

He's very young to be written off as a defender though. It'll be interesting to see how he develops. I suspect his first season will be difficult.

He's only 20. If he's any way decent he'll be moving on in a year or two's time.

Very puzzled by this deal as he seems to be young and upcoming talent that a year ago would've fetched 3 x that much.

theres a reason no other club is trying to hijack the deal . . . . newcastle are his level. only 20 years old but not exactly setting the world alight to gain a big move.

I'm sure at one point we all thought Insua was the next big thing, clearly not developed like people thought

Mourinho rated him and played him in the league. He then got injured and Rafa couldn't use him. After that they loaned him to Cesena so he could get some playing time.
