Before his injury that kept him out a few months he was rated as the top young defender in the league. He had a very solid season at Cesena last season.

He will probably stay at Newcastle this season and then a top four club will sign him. Newcastle is a good move for him. He will get a lot of playing time and they are a selling club. No problem if he want a move next summer.

Brilliant signing for them if he hits the ground running. His price will skyrocket and the sell-on value potential is huge.

Not necessarily easy to get a move out though is it. Carroll didn't exactly come cheap and Enrique was entering the final year of his contract.

Generally agree though that the move seems likely to be good for both parties.

You might wanna check his appearance stats under Benitez and how many times he come on as a sub under Benitez. "Couldnt use him". I really have no idea why you make this stuff up.

He could have used him and did on occasions, he just preferred to watch Cristian Chivu get terrorised instead.

He had been out a few months injured. I know about his appearance stats etc but as I said. He had been out a few months injured and because of that missed the pre-season and had to catch up on that.

That meant Chivu instead of him.

The injury and missed pre-season meant that Rafa couldn't use him in the starting XI. It would have been madness to throw a young player into the starting XI when he isn't fit to play 90 minutes.

Then he got another injury and was out for a month.

Had he? Weird that Rafa had him on the bench in August then. And had another month out? Hmmm, the dates dont seem to back that up. Are you making up lies again? Please, do point out the dates of this massive injury that meant Rafa could never play him as to me it looks like he was available for the whole of Rafa's reign.

He had surgery on one of his knees in November 2009. A serious inflammation in the same knee meant that he missed the pre-season training.

He was out injured in December 2010 IIRC because he got problems with the same knee injury. Nothing serious. After that they loaned him out to Cesena.

He didn't compete with Chivu by the way. He is a right back that can also play on the left. He competed with Maicon and Zanetti.

That must have been tough for him but you said "He then got injured and Rafa couldn't use him" which is clearly complete and utter lies as ive shown.

They never said he'd signed on Sky Sports News last night when the did the team by team thing - so I guess, once again Sky Sports are the idiots who forgot about him then!

He played LB primarily under Jose. Read this article yesterday and it shows his rise fall and then re-birth!

If, as Mourinho had frequently suggested, “we must no longer talk about Santon as a great talent because he is already a great footballer”, then what had happened to the player he called the “White Maicon” or “the Next Maldini”? When and how did his fall from grace occur?

The turning point came in late October 2009 when Inter played host to Palermo in Serie A. Samuel Eto’o and Mario Balotelli had put the home side 4-0 to the good at half-time and with his team cruising, Mourinho decided to throw on Santon after the interval.

It was then that he received a lesson, as the marauding Palermo full-back Mattia Cassani proceeded to run rings around him. By the 67th minute the score was 4-3 and Mourinho was furious. A late Diego Milito goal put the match beyond the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to save Santon who felt the full force of his manager’s anger in the dressing room. He was seen leaving San Siro that night in tears, a broken young man.
