i liked the cut of his jib from his compilation video's. yeh yeh, i know, but he was also young player of the copa and looked strong in the tackle, commanding and powerful, basically everything he hasnt been at Liverpool

a loan home helps his world cup claim but maybe a loan to spain would have developed him as a player and been better fpr us.

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Its frustrating when players seem promising but are just never really given the chance by the manager (its happened under all of them I can remember).

I guess they base their decisions on what they see day-to-day in training. But nevertheless it is acknowleged that some great, great players were bad trainers (Ian Rush I beleive and also Didi).

How a young guy like Coates was supposed to come over from Uruguay, with no experience of European football, and look the business in a the odd Carling Cup game is beyond me.

There was no clear strategy for developing this player. He should have spent a season in Belgium or somewhere on loan.

Had moments where he looked decent, but just looked cumbersome and switched off to often...I think it was the mullet

Pity he seems to have been bombed out without ever really getting a chance. Theres a player in there for sure. If he learns to throw his weight around he'd be a beast of a CB.

Can see him going to Spain and dominating.
          Perfect league for him.

I would have preferred that he was loaned to some team there instead of Nacional but it is what it is.

So then, we need to sign a new friendly Uruguyan for Luis ?

One of the biggest mistakes we have made in last few years but it is becoming apparent that we will be going in that direction in the future, which is very good.

We won't be able to compete with Chelsea, Real or Citys of this world when it comes to signing already developed top players but if we do a good scouting job we will be able to sign young and upcoming talent and then have then send on a loan so they can continue with their development and where they will be playing regular more competitive football rather than have them assigned to reserves where chances of making to the first team over time are very limited.

Sending a young player on a loan and/or buying him and leaving him to play at his old club until he is mature enough and is ready will challenge for the starting job will help us tremendously and I hope we see more and more of that in years to come.

A bit like Henderson in some ways.

I've never seen that goal. I was watching a stream which froze in the build up. I saw celebrations but it froze again for the replays. Never seen it.

Sebastian Coates named in Uruguay squad

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is one of four Premier League players selected by coach Oscar Tabarez for Uruguay's 25-man provisional World Cup squad.
