it was a really bad error, and he looked gutted afterwards, but it's very encouraging that he pulled it together and did pretty well overall. I expect Kenny gave him suitable encouragement at ht.

You can't expect players that almost don't play at all to come out and don't make mistakes.
He played a good game considering that he can't be match fit.Stop the cyberhate

I think that is about our best team atm, though I still like Johnson at RB, but he needs to get match fit.Originally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostI don't, not yet. There's too much at stake at the moment and I can't see him breaking up a back four of Kelly, Skrtel, Agger & Enrique. Johnson's got a job to get back in the side too now, unless he's shifted over to the left and Enrique's pushed further forward.
Team for WBA should be
Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Gerrard Lucas Adam
Maxi Suarez Bellamy
= Death to WBA

I stalled on my driving test. Without hesitation I pulled the handbrake up, switched the engine back on again, checked my mirrors and completed it without ever looking flustered. The examiner said that my confidence convinced him to pass me. That mistake could be the making of Coates tooOriginally posted by Kenneth View Post

Thing is, that team is strong throughout and should be able to impose itself on almost all teams in the premier league. Regardless of how WBA wants to play, we should set ourselves up to press them from the start. There's not a single slouch in that line-up either, it's power pace and skill throughout.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI think that is about our best team atm, though I still like Johnson at RB, but he needs to get match fit.
Adam is the weakest player to be fair but he's needed for his set pieces. If he struggled, I'd be happy to substitute him for Spearing in the line-up. I'm sure it'll be Carroll and Henderson in for Bellamy and Maxi though. Henderson slows play too much, Carroll is unproductive. It's a real shame if Kenny doesn't take the risk and play Maxi because Stoke are far better than WBA at defending.

Everybody is entitled to mistakes, Carragher has made plenty, Skrtel and even Hyppia must have (Though admittedly none spring to mind). The positive thing was that Coates just got on with it and came back with a very strong performance. I'm sure he is still finding his feet here and once he does I think we'll have a class act.

I don't know if anyone noticed but about two minutes after the mistake, he had the ball out on the same side whilst getting closed down very quickly. Instead of taking the easy option of using Pepe, he pretended too before swinging it onto his left and up the field. Takes massive balls to be doing that literally minutes after such a glaring cock up.
His composure after the mistake was what impressed me the most. If anything he grew in stature and was our stand out defender. Really would be in a shout for motm if not for Suarez and the error.
I still think it's too early to be throwing him in. It only takes a few errors from a young player, especially a defender, until they're slaughtered by the media & most that want him playing now. We've all seen it before.
I'm confident it won't be long until he makes himself a number one choice at the back though.

After watching the goal again, I'm wondering just how much it was pressed on the team not to give away throw ins from that area. He could easily have headed it out before it bounced, which is what instinct would've told him to do. Like as has already been said, it could be the making of him.

I said that in the match thread earlier, it looks like he gave heading it out serious thought and then opted against it. All it takes is a small amount of hesitation and bang goal. Clear your lines all day long and then turn to defend the long throw. I thought he wasn't great in the air against Jones, but he did very well, reads the game well. He certainly didn't let the mistake effect him which is the sign of a class player. We've got a good one in the making.
