Why not send all 3 and why is the tallest one of the lot left behind if he's good in the air?Originally posted by Rich View PostBecause both Agger and Skrtel went up for it.
Skrtel and Agger are good in the air but lets face it, they are no Sami, something we are all hoping Coates might be.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Perhaps there was a thought that we should keep at least one CB back to prevent counters and Sktrel is senior and has scored a few from corners this season.Originally posted by RedReet View PostWhy not send all 3 and why is the tallest one of the lot left behind if he's good in the air?

Possibly, but if we were only playing 2 CB's then they both would have went forward with a smaller player dropping back, so I don't see why this would be different just because we had 3 on the pitch.Originally posted by dww View PostPerhaps there was a thought that we should keep at least one CB back to prevent counters and Sktrel is senior and has scored a few from corners this season.
I also think under the circumstances that a defeat wouldn't have been much worse than a draw so we should have been going for it regardless.
Just found it odd, but sure it worked so I can't really say anything. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

We were down to 10 men, so it was wise to keep Coates at the backOriginally posted by RedReet View PostPossibly, but if we were only playing 2 CB's then they both would have went forward with a smaller player dropping back, so I don't see why this would be different just because we had 3 on the pitch.

Again, I understand that, but we're chasing the game with a set-piece in the final minutes so it makes sense to bring your biggest player up.
I was just a bit disappointed, either it was a reflection on Coates ability or on Kenny's negativity, I just can't accept any sound tactical reason. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Or positivity, in that he was confident the players would deliver the win, whether Coates went up or not.Originally posted by RedReet View PostAgain, I understand that, but we're chasing the game with a set-piece in the final minutes so it makes sense to bring your biggest player up.

I would suggest that you need a taller player to counter a player who is muscular and good in the air like Yakubu who would have been their obvious out ball and/or a likely main focus of a counter attack.Originally posted by RedReet View PostPossibly, but if we were only playing 2 CB's then they both would have went forward with a smaller player dropping back, so I don't see why this would be different just because we had 3 on the pitch.

The draw/loss point is valid but I think ideally you want your team to behave as if every game is live if only to improve their decision making when that is the case."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

With aggers record I'll say he'll get a bit of playing time this season. Carra should be 4th pick now IMO.Originally posted by Fernandinho View PostI think he is going to be a serious goal threat for us if he becomes a regular first team player.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Good to see that we've now got three centrebacks who can score goals (along with Johnson who can chip in with a couple).
Hyypia has been our only goalscoring defender over the last ten years, and given that we don't have too many goalscorers in our team right now it's a bit of a bonus that we have Coates, Skrtel and Agger.
Plus they're all good young defenders too.
