      Everton takeover talks ongoing
Chief executive determined to find right buyer

Chief executive Robert Elstone has confirmed that discussions over the future ownership of Everton have started and stressed that the club is not overpriced.

Elstone said 'genuine conversations' are taking place regarding ownership and future investment but there was a responsibility to select the 'right buyer with the right intentions'.

Indian construction giant Jain were the latest to be linked with a move but a number of other parties are also understood to be interested.

Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright has come in for criticism over the past couple of months from a section of fans who believe he is the main barrier to progress on the sale.

Supporters' group The Blue Union are staging another rally and march before Everton's home match with Wolves a week on Saturday as they continue to protest about perceived inertia at boardroom level.

However, Elstone said the process was a complicated one which had to be handled sensitively.

"Speculation and football go hand in hand and over the past few weeks there's been plenty of talk about Everton takeovers and investment," he said.

As we've said repeatedly there's been a constant stream of interest and dialogue over a considerable period of time and right at this moment that remains true.

"There are a number of individuals, groups and companies interested in Everton and genuine conversations are taking place about future ownership and future investment.

"Discussions are still at an early stage. What I know to be absolutely the case is the first question asked by us in these discussions is never 'How much?' but always 'What are your thoughts, intentions or plans for Everton's future?'

"The responsibility to find the right buyer is paramount and not an excuse for 'not really for sale', 'wanting too much for it' or 'wanting to stay involved'.

"Such a negative outlook only hinders a painstaking and challenging process made all the more difficult in a recession-hit world.

"I'm tired of saying it but the club is absolutely for sale and has not, and will not fail to be sold because it's too expensive or comes with onerous conditions.

"We sincerely hope the right buyer, with the right motives, with a commitment to take Everton forward is part of this current dialogue."

Elstone also moved to defend the club's financial position after yet another transfer window went by when the Toffees' income exceeded their expenditure.

Midfielder Mikel Arteta and strikers Jermaine Beckford and Yakubu Aiyegbeni were sold to Arsenal, Leicester and Blackburn respectively for about £15million.

Only loan signings Royston Drenthe and Denis Stracqualursi and free agent James McFadden have arrived as replacements.

But with the club's debt running between £40million and £45million Elstone admits there is a fine balancing act to be done.

"Speculation is also once again fuelling debate in certain quarters about where our money goes," he told the club's official website.

"To get this straight again, almost 85p in every £1 we earn is spent at the training ground and academy paying the players, the coaches, the scouts, the conditioners, the medics, the support teams, team travel and accommodation along with rent and other overheads.

"We're confident that the investment pays off.

"What's left in the coffers, the other 15p in the £1, funds everything else.

"Quite simply, it doesn't allow us to waste a penny. It means we're a 'lean ship' and one of the leanest in the Premier League.

"It means in some areas, resources are stretched, more stretched than I'd like them to be if I'm honest.

"It certainly means we all have to pull our weight."

EVERTON FC today launched an internal investigation into the publication on the internet of a series of alleged private emails between senior club officials.

The correspondence, including conversations between director of communications Ian Ross and chief executive Robert Elstone, were published on the Toffeeweb site last night then later taken down.

Versions, however, can still be seen on other fans’ websites.

The emails purporting to be from Ross are highly critical of Elstone’s leadership and describes working at Goodison Park as like “working in a kindergarten.”

Other matters discussed include Everton FC’s PR strategy surrounding the protest march by the Blue Union fans’ group in September, a growing air of “paranoia” inside the football club and talk of “financial meltdown” at the club.

Other emails published last night contain correspondence between Will Hanrahan, a Bootle-born former broadcast journalist, and Ross.

At this stage it is not known whether the emails are authentic, however the ECHO has learned today an immediate probe into how they appear to have been received by parties outside of the club, has been launched.

Club officials have not commented but a series of urgent meetings are now underway discussing the issue.

Aye man, they are completely ****ed. Just read through that thread, ****ing hell, they are truly ****ed. It seems to me like some typical **** company with a **** CEO who's for some reason made it to the top by knowing someone and it goes unnoticed, unpunished for too long until the wheels have truly come flying ****ing off at 20000 miles an hour.

The way I see it, Kenwright and Elstone are bezzie mates, Kenwright doesn't want to let go of the Chairmanship, so he's just offering a bunch of shares, which some potential knobhead investor can buy, leaving said investor handing over money while Kenwright pretty much stays in charge? The other CEO they had (can't remember the name, can't be arsed checking in the thread again) seemed to suggest that there's only really one option for Kenwright, and that's selling the **** up into some capable hands. Said CEO didn't last long, along comes Elstone and he seems a weak ****er and does as told. Unbelievable to see the ****e employees some multimillion pound corporations have at the helm.

Kenwright is the problem. I always had the feeling good old bill always wanted some knobhead to buy the club but he stays on as chairman. He is the scouse Tom hicks.

If all this stuff is true, and there's reason to believe it, then Everton must be dangerously close to administration.

They are indeed. According to those emails, they are literally not even on borrowed time, they're on an 0-day payments-due schedule. On August 23 there was an email where they were banging on about how they need to at least sell one player, ideally two, so they can AT LEAST pay the bank - and they did then sell Arteta and Beckford for 15 million, most of which will have gone to the banks. They haven't bought a player for over 2 (!!!!!!) years. They're selling players every transfer window to pay off the debt. They're really truly ****ed.

Imagine if they didn't have Moyes?

                        From nsno:

Everton have reportedly suspended Director of Communications, Ian Ross, after emails sent by him were leaked to Evertonians.

Ross, who allegedly claimed CEO Robert Elstone was “suffering some form of breakdown” when protest group The Blue Union were planning their first protest march, is subject of a now ongoing investigation at the Club.

The boyhood Leeds fan, who has worked at Everton in various capacities over the years, also claimed Elstone had “lost it” and is “unfit to lead” describing what appears to be a relevant and well-written request from the CEO as “incoherent ramblings.” Elstone had sought to find out how complaints to the club were dealt with, and if there were any ways he and his staff could deal with them more effectively.

Ian Ross has long been a controversial figure at Everton, labeling fans as “drunken kn*bheads” in one outburst during a meeting with a fan group and then Chairman Sir Phillip Carter, and often sending bilious emails to fans who express nothing more than genuine concerns. Indeed, here at NSNO Towers we’ve had our own dealings with Ross, who, after complaining about threats of violence in the media, asked us “Are you going to beat me up then?” when we called to clarify some of his comments about the site. Needless to say, we weren’t.

Inside the club there will be few who will be sad to see Ross disciplined, and there will be many who hope this is the beginning of the end of his Everton career. They are not alone in that hope.
                        Official response:

                        http://www.evertonfc.com/evertoninte...to-evertonians

Some of you may have seen the various media reports/internet chatter circulating regarding an alleged email leak of private correspondence.

Not for the first time in the recent past, certain individuals claiming to be Evertonians have made attempts to undermine the people of Everton Football Club by actions almost every one of us would find wholly unacceptable.

Our experienced senior executive team is dealing with the matter assisted by the Club's legal representatives and we will update accordingly and take appropriate action.

It is disappointing to read what has been written on certain internet forums but I remained buoyed by the fact that this Club has the best supporters in football; supporters who I know recognise what's right and what's wrong. And it's wrong to think that we might go down and thus go into administration - we are the People's club.

The challenges faced by us and most of our rivals are there for all to see and we don't shy away from them. Bill and myself have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure we fill our coffers before the **** hits the fan. What's true is we are stronger, and we will make the biggest difference, when we are together.

At the end of a great week for the Club, when we have been saluted both on and off the pitch, Wolves come to visit and we get back to what really matters for Evertonians, climbing out of the relegation zone.

I hope to see you at Goodison tomorrow as we're desperately in need of a few bob.

                        Robert
