His relentless positivism is part of the way he wants to work. Create a positive feeling so his team can be 'arrogant' in games (I've heard him use that term a lot).
I can't believe he didn't want to address the relegation issue, in my opinion he just had to keep cutting away at a small wage budget and in the end it caught up with him. Don't see how him going 'we're **** actually' would have turned their season around. They lacked goal scorers and had no money to buy any. Eventually that told.
I think he's a really good manager and if he ever ends up able to buy and develop a stable squad (as Moyes did at Everton say) I think he would do consistently well.
