I'd like to see them get Champions League, but only if Liverpool win the league. The city is thriving just now, getting the extra dollar from double Champions League visitors would be good for the place.

i know what you mean mate, a better big picture for the city as a whole.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostI'd like to see them get Champions League, but only if Liverpool win the league. it would also mean more business for the local cash converters as the little blue rats could go on the rampage having more city visitors to rob :shame:

I actually hope they finish 4th for the same reason, plus it would probably mean Arsenal are out of the top 4Originally posted by tsb View PostI hope they make 4th. Obviously there are selfish reasons to consider but it would be great for the city.

I'm completely at a loss how fans would rather put one clubs (mis)fortunes over their own success. To prefer to lose out on CL football is stupid thinking. If it were me I'd be thinking that I've now got a decent manager who could give it a shot in Europe as well as think that the additional revenue would bring in better players and attract success. Given they want to finish over us, consistent CL qualification would ultimately be the only way to do this. Sooner or later they could do it.
Shows the small mindedness of fans as well as how short sighted they are. Sorry what was their motto again? Nothing but the best? They certainly live by that ethos don't they?"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.
Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

Bizarre isn't it, always first and foremost you should want your team to succeed and be as successful as possible obviously I'm enjoying the massive fall currently happening at OT but that is just an added bonus to how well we've been doing this season.
For instance my feeling towards Everton getting 4th would be "good on 'em" they're still behind us and they know it.

thing is though - it's the type of fan that exists....i have mates who are LFC fans, but they're more bothered about United.
I'm sure there are spurs fans who are more bothered about what arsenal do...
i don't know enough about the subject to explain why but i bet you a shrink could come up with a term and reasoning behind it.
I always say you get -
Liverpool Supporters - people who love and support the club
Man Utd haters - 'support' liverpool, but hate man utd more
Liverpool fans - they 'follow' liverpool, get excited when we win but they're not effected when we lose.
i'd say every football club has supporters in all three categories.i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

I can only assume that (on some level) they have made the decision that others failure is more likely than their success and therefore they are making the correct wager for happiness. Of course this assumes that one can't just chose another team to make you happier.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostBizarre isn't it, always first and foremost you should want your team to succeed and be as successful as possible obviously I'm enjoying the massive fall currently happening at OT but that is just an added bonus to how well we've been doing this season.

I think we've had the supporter vs fans discussion before. Isn't fans as short for fanatic, and "higher up" than a supporter? Although I think your way is the best one.Originally posted by PTP View Postthing is though - it's the type of fan that exists....i have mates who are LFC fans, but they're more bothered about United.

When it it comes to what kind of people following a club a a agree with you. Especially when you have a more successfull club some people will always pick the underdog and some will just want to go against the majority. So it's not really based on the club they support but on the club they don't support.Blank

Well obviously but surely you'd still rather see success for your own side over that of the failure of other teams.Originally posted by dww View PostI can only assume that (on some level) they have made the decision that others failure is more likely than their success and therefore they are making the correct wager for happiness. Success depends on how you measure it i.e. this season a top 4 finish would have been seen as successful (maybe not so much now) and for a team like Everton that surely would also be seen as a monumental success for them as well.
Most fans are realistic about their chances in the league i.e. it's usually 2 maybe 3 teams actually in for the title. You speak to West Ham fans for instance they'll be looking for a top half finish, Everton probably Europa League but with an eye on the top 4 and someone like Cardiff it's all about staying in the league.

I think people get trapped into ways of thinking - and their last CL adventure only lead to more mocking.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostWell obviously but surely you'd still rather see success for your own side over that of the failure of other teams.

I can actually see why for a lot of people getting into the CL qualifying rounds is not all that exciting. Obviously the main competition is something else, but believing in that requires more optimism."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
