Gylfi Sigurdsson appears set to join Everton after Swansea left him out of their pre-season trip to the United States.

The Toffees are understood to have bid just over £40m for the Iceland midfielder, an offer that has not yet been accepted but is likely to form the core of an agreement between the clubs.

Sigurdsson played 45 minutes in Swansea's first pre-season friendly against Barnet last night, but advised club official after the match that he did not wish to go to America with a transfer close to being agreed.

"We can confirm that Gylfi Sigurdsson will not travel with the squad for our pre-season tour of the USA," a statement said.

"Gylfi did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future."

Imagine the chaos on their forums if we were bidding for these players! Though they are the perfect club for him in lots of respects, loads of fellow slow as **** players and a bit better than Swansea, Burnley but not good enough to challenge us, City etc

£40m for him represents the biggest rip off of the Summer so far IMO.

I think people under estimate Sigurdsson

Look at his goals & assists and then compare them to Barkley

He will improve them an awful lot, the price is huge but then thats the nature of the beast at the moment

He's alright to be fair, works hard, good at set pieces. Another alright signing along with all the other alright ones. Think Barkley is better in open play though he's average too.

A few years back I would have had Gylfi (the Dalglish/first Rodgers seasons) so its quite a few years ago now, I think he would have been a decent back up to Gerrard at that time.

I wouldnt want him now but imo he will much improve them, Barkley is technically a better player as you say but imo hes not clever enough in possession so they will get more out of Gylfi than Barkley in terms of overall contribution (goals / assists)

I think Gylfi will be a good buy for them. worth £50m? well no but then I dont think any of the valuations these days make sense. All you can do is shrug your shoulders and say the market is what it is

I think they have made some decent buys that will improve them - Pickford, Keane, Gylfi are all improvements but its how big an improvement is the question. The loss of Lukaku is big also

As things stands I think they might close the gap slightly on those above them however it remains to be seen what other business is done

                        That was Rodgers' first season

Dalglish was also after him (think he had been at Reading then), but I dont know why it never happened

Am I the only one reading that and thinking £40,000,001?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Gylfi is Man Utd supporter so their B team is the next best thing. He'll be good signing for them for sure.
