To put in context how mental the market is, in 2014, Swansea signed Sigurdsson from Tottenham for a reported £6.8m. Swansea have him at £50m - a 635% increase in value.

The sell on clause (if they inserted one) would be worth more than the original fee.

Swansea City’s owners have issued a public warning to Premier League rivals Everton over their pursuit of Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson has been withdrawn from Swansea’s pre-season tour to America amidst reports that a deal had been struck between the two clubs. However, Swansea are sticking to their £50m valuation of the player.

Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien are angry about Everton unsettling their player, in a similar vein to Southampton’s warning to Liverpool over Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk.

“We are disappointed Gylfi has taken the decision not to join his teammates in America where they are working with the coaching staff to prepare for the upcoming season.

“At this time we have not received an offer from any club which represents a fair valuation of Gylfi given his importance to our club.

“As we have stated, we will not be bullied or forced into a decision until a club meets our valuation of the player, no matter whether they believe they have an agreement with the player.

“Any such agreement would obviously be in contravention of Premier League legislation.

“We have the ultimate respect for Gylfi as a person and a player and we are optimistic that he will reconsider his decision and join his teammates.”

A warning sign. Wayne Rooney loses the ball in the centre circle, MFK move the ball well and Dalibor Takac hits a low shot from 20 yards which flies wide. Always going wide.

Chance for Wayne Rooney! Dominic Calvert-Lewin does well down the right to win a lost cause and find the England man at the near post, but his touch is dull and it gets away from him, meaning that is shot has to be on the stretch and he can only toe it tamely towards goal.
