Could be a mixture of things, but I think he’s suffered from a series of negative managers; Jose, Conte, Lampard. None of them employed the central attacking midfielder (filing half spaces and making late runs into the box) then Poch used him as and he was never a battling or controlling midfielder. He was a limited player that needed the right set up to get use out of him and I guess years of struggling to fit into bus parking sides took its toll on his motivation.
