It has been confirmed that Steed hung up his boots to take care of his son who has just recently been diagnosed with cancer. Malbranque is also understood to have had disagreements with his father over the contract he negotiated, and begged his new team to be released from the deal. Sources close to St Etienne reckon that his father interfered with his work throughout his career, even when he was at Fulham. *

The Belgian midfielder left Sunderland four months ago to join St Etienne, but made only one appearance for the Championnat side before being omitted from the squad altogether for the game against Sochaux at the weekend.
Reports appeared yesterday stating that Malbranque had decided to call time on his 15-year career to care for his four year-old son.
However, a source at Thomas Cooper, the London-based solicitors who represent Malbranque, said last night: “These reports are wholly wrong.
“In the first place, Steed does not have a son. He does have two daughters, both of whom are in good health, and he has not quit at St Etienne.
“We do not know how these reports began but, as you can imagine, Steed is not at all happy about them.”
That rug really tied the room together.

He must be making lots of money (or he's not very bright) when he went about to hire a lawyer to come up with the statement that he doesn't have a son and that he retired cause he didn't want to play football any more...Originally posted by Liverpel View PostThe Belgian midfielder left Sunderland four months ago to join St Etienne, but made only one appearance for the Championnat side before being omitted from the squad altogether for the game against Sochaux at the weekend.

He was a very good player. We were always linked with in the Gerard Houllier days and he wasn't LFC quality. He probably is now thoughOriginally posted by Lee View PostAccording to TalkSport, Malbranque about to step out of retirement at the age of... at the age of... 32. FFS. 32.
Always thought he was a good player. Not LFC quality but a good player anyway.
