    Asamoah Gyan

    This is quite bizarre

Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has signed for United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain on loan.

The Ghanaian joined Sunderland from French club Rennes in August 2010 for £13m.

But on Friday, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce claimed "parasites" turned Gyan's head after his goal in the 1-1 draw with England at Wembley in March.

And on Saturday it was announced that the striker, 25, was on his way to the UAE.

Bruce said: "Anyone who has seen Asamoah play will know that he hasn't been himself in recent months. This option suits all parties at the present time and the club is well-protected in the deal.

"Asamoah has three years remaining on his contract and of course my wish would be that he finds his spark again and we see him in red and white stripes next season in the form that first attracted us to him."

Throughout the transfer window, Gyan was linked with a move to a big European club.

On Friday Bruce blamed agents for turning Gyan's head.

"Since that game at Wembley, all the parasites, as I call them, hover around," said Bruce.

"People are in his ear constantly trying to engineer a deal for him. Certainly since the England game, when he played at Wembley so well on the night, something has been troubling him.

"It's very difficult, the constant speculation no matter what you try to quash or quell, and the people around him, the people who want to make a fast buck, and it affects him in the end.

"He was going from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich to Valencia to Atletico Madrid."

Now Bruce said on Friday that he had challenged the striker to rediscover his form.

"I had a conversation with him two days ago to say, 'Look, the window as now closed, Asa," Bruce said. "Right, we need to see you back playing again and back the way you know you can play'."

Gyan - who has yet to score this season - was due to miss Saturday's Premier League match with Chelsea because of a

This seems an odd one, I would imagine after this he probably won't play for Sunderland again
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Is he going to be getting a top up on his wages as well??? I can't see why he would go there if they weren't going to give him extra.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                Quinn speaks on Gyan

Chairman Niall Quinn has spoken exclusively to safc.com today to clarify the details behind Asamoah Gyan's loan move to UAE side Al-Aim.

"I've heard and read all sorts of nonsense over the last few days and it's important that our fans are in possession of the full facts on this, not hearsay, rumour and media speculation," Quinn said.

"From the moment Asamoah returned for pre-season training we could tell that there were people trying to move him on. We hoped it would pass by, rebuking approaches from the Premier League, France and Turkey and felt the player would settle back down and continue to help our cause.

"Throughout this time we were also receiving real interest from Al-Ain, but it looked as if that too had lost momentum by last Wednesday.

"Steve spoke to Asamoah on Thursday morning, asking him to knuckle down and we were all set to move on. Later that day however Al-Ain began a prolonged effort to get the deal back on track and this turned the players' attentions once more to a possible move.

"Come Friday, the chairman of Al-Ain and his advisors had flown into Newcastle and arrived at our training ground to discuss a potential deal for Asa. They were very professional but determined to sign the player and at this point we took a number of things into consideration:

                1. The players' obviously negative demeanor in and around the training ground
                2. The fact that the transfer window in the UAE had over 50 days remaining, meaning this was unlikely to go away.
                3. The clear desire of the player to leave.
                4. The forthcoming African Nations Cup, which would have meant losing Asamoah for up to six weeks in the New Year.
                5. The obvious economic benefits to our club in the terms of the final deal laid out to us.

"In the early hours of Saturday morning chief executive Margaret Byrne and myself agreed a loan deal to allow Asamoah his wish to move but that would also, and more importantly, protect the club should things not work out for the player.

"Steve Bruce, our owner and the Board all found the football decision that Asamoah wished to make baffling but I as chairman, with everyone's full support, decided that this deal was in the best interests of our football club.

"There was a lot of things that needed to happen before the deal was fully secured, such as a medical, which has in fact only just been completed today. Unfortunately, word of the deal came out ahead of our game against Chelsea.

"Steve's frustrations towards the player, expressed minutes after the Chelsea game, were understandable at such a time but I can reveal that since then Asamoah and Steve have made contact and they are on good terms.

"The olive branch is now there for Asamoah, but he will need to convince Steve, the Board and every Sunderland fan of his commitment to this club if he is to return. I am delighted however that he has agreed to make a sizeable donation to SAFC Foundation for each month that he is away on loan.

"This is the first opportunity that I have had to talk publicly about the deal as we now have confirmation that all the formalities are complete and I hope that our fans will appreciate that the decision was taken in the best interest of our club - which will always be my remit. It also goes without saying that this puts Steve and his recruitment options in a far stronger position for the January window.

"As the dust begins to settle we hope to concentrate everyone's minds on our forthcoming games, getting our squad to blend and kick-start our season. I understand our fans' frustrations at the moment and I thank them for their patience and understanding."

Poor old Jim. Can't be easy going cold turkey from transfer deadline day.

SSN should be a parody of itself.

Sadly for them though, they're being deadly serious
