. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
Believe it or not it's actually work related, I'm having to put together some analysis exercises for new people to do to learn different functions in various software packages, my boss wanted the examples to be interesting i.e. not a boring work example, so I did some footy based stuff
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Well bollocks to you all, I was only trying to stimulate a debate on ways to improve the game by messing about with the points system and you just pan my 'example' as my 'idea' and don't offer any alternatives

Your welcome
Now can your new people practice by working out if we would have won the league in 2008/2009 when we got 86 points if we still had the 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw please, or any other season since we last won the league actually
If I were to implement any rule from Rugby into Football then it would revolve around extra time and how the game is completed.
In Rugby the siren goes, but it is once the ball is out of play or an error occurs (I think that's right about the error) that the game is finally over. The team that is losing hang on to the ball trying to play a mistake free game so as to keep the game going. The winning team, once they get the ball kick it to hell.
If something similar is introduced to this game it would be one less thing for either Fergie to whinge about, or more commonly, for teams playing United to complain about.
..... just a thought.
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.
Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."
I think I've seen a conversation about this idea somewhere on the forum before.
It's an interesting idea.
Their are some soft offenses that earn yellow cards and others that are borderline red card, a big difference in the gravity of the fault resulting in the same punishment.
So many times it seems really unfair to get a red after 2 soft yellow cards and then the game is ruined.
Maybe 2nd yellow gets a sin bin and then a third yellow gets a red would be fairer and some offenses could merit a straight sin bin with a red after that.
It would enable the referee to punish offenses more fairly without ruining the game.

There was discussion after Beckham was sent off against Argentina back in 98 (wow that long ago) of implementing a blue card. This would effect the player and not the team as the player would be dismissed but the team could bring on a substitute.

A bonus point system would only work if a team won by at least 3 goals, not just scored at least 3 goals imo. There's no point in rewarding a team for scoring say 4 goals like Blackburn last weekend when they also conceded 3. If they had've won 4-1 or 4-0 then different story...
Also I feel if a team has made all their subs but an injury occurs they should be allowed another sub - this would make the game a lot better & fairer imo...
Lastly I would like an appeal system like in tennis - 2 in each half where only goals or Red cards can be appealed because those are the only 2 game changing incidents that should be focused on. If the TV ref agrees u keep your appeals, if not u lose them just like in tennis. This is the ONLY way football will have fair outcomes - there is too much money at stake for mostly old-aged, half blind refs & linesmen to make decisions based on a quick, real time glance at any given scenario!
This season's table adjusted to give a bonus point for every team that scores 3 or more goals in a game PTS is the current number of points, B is the number of bonus points and New is the points including bonus point
The main teams to benefit would be Man Utd and Man City who are the only teams to have scored 3 or more goals on more than one occasion. Aside from making the gap between the top two bigger it does very little to the table, only teams with * next to them would change position in the table. Swansea would move above Norwich and Bolton would move above Fulham (note I've only take points totals not goal difference into account).
That table would probably be different if the the bonus point was implemented as teams who may have previously settled with 2 goals may have tried to get a 3rd.
