The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Manchester Police are investigating a second alleged football betting scandal that reportedly involves the brother of Wayne Rooney’s teammate Michael Owen.

According to the Daily Mail, 40-year-old Terry Owen is said to have placed a bet of 200 pounds on the superstar staying at Manchester United an hour before Roo signed up.

However, there is no suggestion that Rooney knew anything about the gamble.

Owen reportedly made a phone call and placed the bet at 7/2 against that the striker would stay at Old Trafford when all the money was going on a switch to bitter rivals Man City.

Under the Gambling Act, betting on a known result is cheating and a criminal offence which carries two years in jail.

Bookies fearing a pummelling from punters immediately slashed their odds and one even closed its market after he phoned over the wager in October last year.

Just an hour later, Rooney, 25, made a shock U-turn and signed a five-year contract " netting Terry a cushy 900-pound return.

Last night, the aircraft fitter confessed to making the bet and said: “It had nothing to do with Michael.”

But he and his megastar brother will now face a police probe into whether he cashed in from inside information
The times they are a changin'.
