Foreign owners 'want end to Premier League relegation'

    WTF????

Several foreign-owned Premier League clubs want to scrap relegation, according to League Managers Association chief Richard Bevan.

If more clubs are sold to foreigner investors, they may have enough votes to force through the change.

But Bevan hopes that a government-led inquiry can help prevent the proposal.

"We're very keen that the report is successful in helping the Football Association introduce a licensing programme for clubs," he said.

"Because there are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League.

"If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen."

    More to follow.

It'd be similar to the Super League model then used here? You apply for a Premier League licence over a 3 year period. I dont know if I like it.

Could well make for a more competitive premier league, but would be a killer for the other leagues.

Well, he's being a bit vague there, Mr Bevan.

Is he saying that all foreign oned clubs want this, or is he generalising? How many foreign owned clubs are there now?

As we established last week, in a vote 14 clubs would have to vote yes to change it right?
            Oh I don't know.

I'm sure all American owners would prefer it. Culturally it's what they're accustomed to (even if they aren't actively involved in any of the major American sports) and it's a hell of a lot more stable for your business model.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Based on the fact you need 14 clubs to agree to a proposal to change the rules, is he suggesting (with the bit in bold) that there are 9 or 10 clubs/owners already in favour of this? Or is he exaggerating?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

There's a lot to be said for making an effort to understand the culture they are entering.

As ever, there is little detail here. It would be interesting to see exactly who is proposing what.

In fact I'm pretty sure the owners of all current Premier League clubs wouldn't be too unhappy with it. It's the ones who fear they might be on the outside when the wall goes up who would play safe and reject it.

And of course there is a reluctance from the like of Dave Whelan based on the culture we have here.

But if you could guarantee Dave Whelan that Wigan would be part of it he'd be a pretty poor businessman to say, "No thanks, we'd rather take the risk."

I reckon the solution to this is simple, if you want an end to relegation, make sure your club never finishes outside the top 17. Simple, no need for a vote.
