The Liga I match between Steaua Bucharest and Petrolul Ploiesti has witnessed a few minutes of utter carnage that saw the game suspended and reflects terribly on the state of the game in Romania.
Steaua were 2-0 up going into the dying seconds of the first half, thanks to goals on 36 and 45, when a fan (presumably of Petrolul Ploiesti, initial reports suggest he is part of a “drug gang”) ran on to the pitch and from behind punched 30-year-old defender George Galamaz.
A number of Steaua players immediately waded in. But for their part in attacking the pitch invader, Novak Martinovic and keeper Razvan Stanca were sent off.
