    FA Cup 2011/12

First round proper weekend this week. I'm off to watch Bromley v Leyton Orient tomorrow, Bromley are going to get absolutely ****ted off the park - as is always the case when they reach this stage

Hardly a 'giant killing' but watch out for Sutton Utd against Kettering Town. Sutton are resurgent in the BlueSq South after spending a couple of seasons in the Ryman. Kettering are struggling in the Conference

Anyone else watching the FA Cup rather than the internationals?

I saw Bromley play someone (could have been Hayes but I'm probably getting confused with where the ground was) in the final qualifying round in 1976. They won and then lost 7-0 to Swindon in the first round.

    True story.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

FA Cup above Internationals every time. Was looking at the entry structure on Wiki the other day. Its great how far down it goes and how small a team could theoretically progress this far.
      Football without Origi is nothing

Everton have made it through to the third round again.

Hayes Lane is the name/location of their ground

Yep, that's what I dimly recalled.

FA Cup history will be made this weekend when Japanese FIFA referee, Masaaki Toma, takes charge of Brentford v Basingstoke in the First Round Proper on Saturday.

The J-League official is in the UK as a part of an ongoing referee exchange programme and has already refereed a Reserve fixture earlier this week between Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland as well as the Solihull Moors v Boston United Conference North fixture last weekend.

He was also the Fourth Official at Thursday's U19 International game between England and Denmark at the Amex Stadium in Brighton, with compatriot Yoshiro Imamura officiating over the 1-0 win for Noel Blake's Young Lions.

Toma also took charge of the England v Mexico international friendly played at Wembley in the build-up to the 2010 World Cup.

Toma’s appointment was approved by The FA’s Referees’ and Challenge Cup Committees and it’s the first time ever that a non-British match official has taken charge of an FA Cup fixture in the competition’s 131 year history.

Chairman of The FA’s Referees Committee, David Elleray, commented: “Masaaki Toma is a world class referee and his appointment shows that The FA Cup really does hold global appeal.”
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Sounds great. What could possibly go wrong, in the widely tolerant and accepting world of english football?

History indeed. It will be the first time anyone from Basingstoke has ever seen a non-white person.

I'm on the committee at Redbridge FC and currently do the programme and website. I've done practically every role at some point in the past apart from Chairman and Secretary.

We play in the Ryman League, Division One North. Tomorrow we play Oxford City who are league leaders, one division above us in a sister league (Southern League, Premier).

If we win this game we will make history as the lowest ranked team to have ever made it to the 2nd Round Proper.

Please wish us luck and keep an eye on results tomorrow.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed to meet Liverpool at Anfield in the 3rd Round Proper.

By the way, forgot to mention that we started in the Preliminary Round so we've had to beat to 5 teams (or rounds) just to get to this point.

                            That's a fair point I guess.
