it's his middle name as far as i know. in fact his wikipedia entry states his name as "preben elkjær larsen" and then refers to him as just "elkjaer" for the rest of the document.

i like how he used to smoke constantly.

Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner has issued a public apology following his arrest on Thursday in relation to an incident in Newcastle City Centre.

Bendtner, 23, along with Black Cats team-mate Lee Cattermole, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and later released on bail.

In a statement, he said: "I am extremely sorry for all of this."

"My most important goal right now is getting rid of my injury and getting back in top form."

Through a statement, published on the website of Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Danish international Bendtner said he had "been involved in several incidents that have attracted much negative attention from the media."

He added: "I hope you will understand that I am therefore now intending to concentrate on football, and just about football - it is here and only here that my focus must lie.

"I apologise sincerely that I have allowed myself to get involved in things that are interpreted in such dramatic fashion."

Bendtner, who is on a season-long loan from Arsenal, used the opportunity to comment on two other incidents which he has been involved in.

The Danish international added that he will change his lifestyle in light of recent events.

"I fully assume responsibility for not distancing myself from these incidents before they got out of hand," he added.

"I hope you will understand that I now promise to concentrate fully on football and only football. My focus has to be here - and not anywhere else.

"It means that I in the upcoming time won't be involved in extracurricular activities - like too many parties or interviews about my persona.

"Trust takes time to build - and I now can see how quickly it disappears."

His most important goal, imo, should be to change his behaviour. His too arrogant, too selfish and too "I let my mouth speak and not my football skills".

Yesterdays copy of Ekstrabladet stated that Nicklas Bendtners apology letter wasn't in fact written by Bendtner him self but another. It was on the front page, and since I see Ekstrabladet as Denmark's answer to The S** I didn't buy it so I honestly don't know the full story. But if it's true that his oh so personal "I'm so sorry"-letter wasn't written by him, it is only even more gasoline on the bonfire.

It appears so. He has winning mentality and when you combine that with arrogance and with his self-concept of him being the greatest player that ever was you have a pretty ****ed up cocktail. Bendtner, Eriksen and Agger are the three best players on the Danish nation team and it's frustrating that he cannot behave himself. I hope one day he will grow up and realize that he wasn't good enough to play for Arsenal and maybe his attitude was a part of it.

Bendtner scored today for Sunderland, I think it was his second goal and he haven't even had a breakthrough for Sunderland yet? Jesus, he must be wondering where he will end up.
As O'Neil said he has to adjust himself to the new play style. Arsenal has the ball a lot and Sunderland doesn't. I share O'Neil's opinion that this is the most important season for Bendtner. It might decide his future.

He might be arrogant, but still there is no ill-wish for me that he should end up at fremad amager!!

@Philip it really is his last season for a proper breaktrough at club stage. He is 23-24 now, so not much time to go on. Bendtners main problem (besides his attitude) is that he is not really well suited for in many mid-table teams in terms of playing style but he is not good enough to play at a team like arsenal where the playing style is what he is used to (and also why he works well in the national team). Perhaps Spanish football will be better for him?

How's Agger perceived in Denmark out of interest?

He's just not very good. A poor man's David Ngog but with a worse attitude.

I don't think that Bendtner's future is in English football. His attitude might be more suited for Italian football but I don't know where his play style is suited. Unbelievable a man that has been indoctrinated with the Danish term tab og win med samme sind (loose and win with the same spirit or you win some, and you loose some) can think his the worlds greatest footballer. I really like the guy but I must say that it is only because he played in Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and his Danish. I hope he will find a club that's suitable for him.

Another Dane that might just have a worse attitude if you look past the fact that Bendtner is a vandalist is Anders Lindegaard from Scum. He is so arrogant, he's trash talking in the Danish media all the time and he is just so horny for attention in the media.

I think everybody in Denmark loves Agger, for his attitude and what he brings to the game (even FCK and scum fans). He in many ways embodies the Danish attitude (unlike Bendtner), and I don't think I overstate it when I say everybody thinks he is the best player in the national team. Perhaps Eriksen will change that in a few years.

Agger is perceived as a great footballer and a nice person. Many see him as the Danish national team's true captain. Every time Liverpool win, draw or looses the articles headlines always starts with "Agger and Liverpool..." and the articles also starts with "Agger and Liverpool" if his injured or banned. We are proud of what Agger has accomplished in Denmark but fear for his returning injuries. Agger is our best center defender so every time he gets injured the whole nation hold their breath if there's an upcoming international match. His one of the most important players on the national team.

I hope this answers your question. If not feel free to ask again.

Ah, that's quality to hear. Thank you guys.

I think I remember reading something from a Danish follower when Agger signed for us; he said that Agger speaks like The Terminator and is also the sort of player to kick up a fuss and bang on the managers door if he wasn't selected.

                                Agger.
