Yeah. Some journos are saying Utd lied. I'm not sure why they would. Either way, it looks like with Chelsea's denial now that both players will be off the market, or Chelsea would look totally stupid

One thing's for sure, Luiz and Mata will not be happy about this.
Just because the BBC ran with it does not necessarily make it true. And they did say the players were "believed to be" Mata and Luis, ie. believed by the Daily Mail.

I still think it is just too mad. The valuations are ****ed at the very least.

The way Ben Smith is tweeting, he is adamant that players were offered

Or, they could have said to Utd that those players are available for transfer should they want them. However here's a nice bid for Rooney for your perusal.
          Hello mert.

So someone he believes told him that. Still doesn't make it true. I would prefer to go with pure logic, Chelsea / Mourinho are egotistical but not stupid, as an opening offer I simply refuse to believe it

I just can't believe the lack of journalistic integrity in the making up of these salacious transfer stories.

Its almost as if they think there is an army of people online willing to pick up on each rumour and debate its every subtlety ad nauseum.

              Modifying post.

Well, actually, I've never seen a breaking news story on the BBC website which has been fabricated but it seems that they might have got this one wrong.

They don't run stories unless there is 100% something in them (unless it's the gossip column).

i just glanced at a couple of chelsea forums

                    their stance is

Chelsea asked united about rooney. how much etc

United responded with, take what you value Luiz/Mata at and add £10m

as if to say that Rooney is as important if not more to United as Luiz/Mata to chelsea

                    or something like that

i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

I personally think you are putting a tiny bit too much faith in them. If everyone else is running a story and they believe it to be true they will run it. Key word being believe, no journo gets 100% right, trusted sources can get stuff wrong etc.

Fwiw I've seen them correct their own stories, sport and general news, relatively often, especially since the advent of 24hr news channels and twitter which encourage outlets to run with things as fast as poss.

No sorry, have to disagree. They're pretty concrete with their stories. Alway.

Mourinho Just confirming Rooney is the only transfer target this summer

Speaking in Bangkok following the first match of his second spell in charge - a 1-0 win over Singha All-Stars - Mourinho declined the opportunity to fuel the argument.

"I think that this situation is clear - nothing is a secret anymore," he said.

"The official bid is just about a certain amount of money and doesn't involve players.

"We want the player. We made the bid and now we have nothing more to say.

"Now it's up to Manchester United."

Asked if Chelsea had made any other bids, Mourinho said: "No, and we won't."

Asked whether it is now "Rooney or bust", Mourinho said: "yes."
