I think Rio is an it, too.

I can see the thinking behind it being a red card and if we look at historic red cards, there have been plenty for lashing out ... I'm just a fan of rough and tumble football and I think it's slowly getting phased out of the game.

There doesn't really need to be any moralising involved. It was what it was, an aggressive act away from the play that should have been punished with a red, you simply can't do that sort of thing. Agger on Nani, piss funny I agree, but still a red.

The fact its off the ball for me is enough to warrant a red card. The seriousness of the 'assault' itself is largely irrelevant IMO.
It's a clear attempt to initiate retaliation from an opposing player, which would result in a red card for that player.

FA letting him away with it, just reaffirms their cowardice to make a stand against unsportsmanlike behavior.

Having said that......smacking the traitor is commendable behavior.

So the Chairman & Vice-Chairman are both pro-United - what a wonderfully democratic system the FA has!
And still no other Premier League club representative on the board I bet...

That works out about half a days wages for him. A touchline ban would have been more appropriate.

Manchester United appoint specialist to improve Old Trafford atmosphere
                        • Accoustic engineer will report to club at end of the season
                        • Move comes following complaints from United supporters

Manchester United are trying to crank up the atmosphere inside Old Trafford following complaints by supporters that the stadium is too quiet on matchdays, having appointed an acoustic engineer to assess the problem.

As revealed by the Manchester Evening News and confirmed by the club, a sound specialist will report back to club officials on the volume inside the ground after attending the Premier League game against Liverpool in January.

The engineer will attend further matches before the end of the season and then submit findings on how the atmosphere can be improved inside the 75,000-capacity venue.

A club source told the Manchester Evening News: "There were supporters in the Stretford End who thought they had made a lot of noise only for friends in different parts of the ground to say they couldn't hear them."

United, who play rivals Manchester City in the league on Monday, had previously attempted to set-up a dedicated singing section inside the stadium but those plans have been abandoned. A scheme to relocate away supporters from their current location has also been shelved, following a trial when Aston Villa played at Old Trafford last season.

Despite being the largest Premier League ground, Old Trafford has often been lambasted for having a poor atmosphere and the recent complaints came from fans in the more vocal Stretford End.

The former United midfielder Roy Keane famously criticised the noise in 2000. He said: "Away from home our fans are fantastic, I'd call them the hardcore fans. But at home they have a few drinks and probably the prawn sandwiches, and they don't realise what's going on out on the pitch."

Is this a late April Fool's joke? Maybe it'll be easier to just rename Old Trafford to "Theatre of Dreams - Literally".

As for the quote "Away from home, specially in London, our fans are fantastic", the author missed out the bit in bold.

To be fair isn't it similar at anfield for the past 15 years, utd and European games aside?

In fact the atmosphere at most of the big teams is **** over here. Stoke and Portsmouth have loud fans but the former get lambasted for being morons. I think its because tickets are expensive which means a large percentage of fans at top teams are more interested in leg room, looking at their phones and making sure they have enough grub to shove down their throats. Singing is beneath them. The times we live in.
