With **** I mean not even close to be good enough. It is of course difficult to know that before he got a chance but he was **** as our manager.

We replaced a fantastic manager, Kenny with a **** one, Souness. We replaced a fantastic manager Rafa, with a **** one, Roy.

Man U replaced, well a fantastic manager DBF, with a **** one, Moyes.

It is the manager that build the squad and if he isn't good enough then the excellent players won't be excellent anymore and the very good ones won't be very good etc.

Players hear about it and picks other clubs.

Out there Moyes is a manager many of the top class players never heard off before he moved to United. They won't risk their careers playing for a manager they know nothing about.

The players will start to moan big time and Moyes will be sacked IMO. The players won't fear him and the big egos will rule the dressing room.

Souness was the outstanding candidate back then for the job, he fitted into "the bootroom type of manager" policy we had back then... continuity was key at this stage.

It was a natural progression, another famous Anfield son, back in the fold albeit he spent a few years away from LFC managing a very successful glasgow rangers team before hand...

It didnt work out for him, but we ( or the board) would have no inkling of that at the time of the appointment.

by that i mean, so far, he's not said a word to the press, which will be down to him wanting to see Moyes succeed

but if in a few months times, United are struggling and we see a ferguson interview giving him a vote of confidence or something like that, then i reckon Moyes days will be numbered...

Souness had a huge job on his hands, as does Moyes - a lot of the players bought by Dalglish towards the end of his reign were average and most of the genuine class players were getting on a bit. Not dissimilar to where United find themselves now.

Still Souness didn't help himself - not forgetting his incredibly naïve and ill judged post-op S*n interview - he sold Beardsley and Staunton, both proved to be excellent Premiership players for several more years; he chopped and changed too quickly; and then paid way over the top for some dross, namely Paul Stewart, but he wasn't alone.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but you do wonder whether Roy Evans would have been a better, safer bet.

I don't see how he can't have known about that rag so either they had some dirt on him and he had to play ball or it was just sheer arrogance on his part. I vaguely remember that the fee they paid him was pretty high.

Paul Stewart...****e. Mark Walters...at least he tried but also a bit ****. Julian Dicks and Neil Ruddock....says a lot about how football used to be that these two were professional athletes. Mark Wright...decent player but his confidence ended up shot. Dean Saunders...big fee, did try but ill-suited, the Darren Bent of his day. Players shipped out....Steve Mcmahon, Peter Beardsley, Ray Houghton....can't say any of them were replaced by a player anywhere near as good?

souness' reign turned out to be poor, then s*n interview was shocking, as was some of his signings, but my initial point was he was one of the best midfielders we ever had, his early managerial reign suggested that he took his traits into management with him, he was one of our own. not straight out of the bootroom, but not that far removed from it.
