    11/12: Young, De Gea, Jones.
    12/13: Powell, Kagawa, Zaha.

Then you have previously bought or promoted players that should be in their prime or are well experienced: Valencia (28), Rafael (23), Evra (32), Evans (26), Rooney (28), Carrick (32), Nani (27), Welbeck (23), Cleverly (24).

While I as a Liverpool fan still look at that squad of players and think they are ****, they are still the same signings that Ferguson was getting lauded for as he was 'leaving his legacy for the next 10 years', and still the same players that walked the league last year and would be up challenging again under a better manager.

Much like Hodgson, Moyes greatest skill seems to be lowering expectations and shifting blame elsewhere and how they get the press on board is sickening. As fickle and as idiotic as they are though, the fact that Moyes now has a large section of the United fanbase blaming their all time hero for the clubs current demise, will probably go down as the greatest accomplishment he'll ever go on to achieve as manager.

    Moyes.

That's true, the core of the squad should be in decent shape. Add Fellaini to the mix as well and they should have about the right average age, 27 ish.

At least 10 players are believed to face uncertainty beyond this summer, with Rio Ferdinand, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernández the most high-profile. Ryan Giggs, at 40, is also expected to depart the scene at the end of the season and become a full-time member of Moyes’s backroom team. The likes of Anderson, Fabio da Silva, Alexander Buttner, Federico Macheda and Bebe are also likely to be cleared off the wage bill.

From the article above. But if they have to clear out these players, what is their resale value? Can't be much for Rio, Anderson, Macheda, Bebe, Fabio and Buttner. Kagawa and Hernandez might be worth a quid or two but I think their value will go down tbh.

Vidic is also injury prone and Rooney will not fetch his market value if he leaves in the summer.

That leaves them with a relatively expensive rebuilding job for the summer

I think should they fail to make the Champions League they'll have mutiny on their hands:

Van Persie -No Champions League and he'll force a move. £20-30m?
        Rooney - Ditto £30m?
        Carrick - I think there's a chance he'll want out too. £10m?
        Rio Ferdinand -Possibly he'll stay?
Shinji Kagawa - He'll surely desperate to move? £10m?
        Javier Hernández - A definite goner. £10m?
        Ryan Giggs - Retiring
Nani - Another they surely want rid of? £5m?
        Anderson - Gone surely? £4m?
Fabio da Silva - Goner £3m?
Alexander Buttner - I think they'll probably have to keep him as Evra is crap these days.
Federico Macheda - Gone on a free
        Bebe -
Fellaini - Disaster of a signing, will they cut their losses? £10-15m?

I think they could generate about £100m in sales, but they'd have to virtually rebuild the whole squad without the carrot of Champions League football to attract the top players. What a mess

I had no idea Ferguson spent £20m on Anderson.

          Modifying post.

£30m for Van Persie at 31 after a season of recurring injuries?

£10m for Carrick at 33 who's also been quite injury prone?

I do think they'd get a lot more for Kagawa, Hernandez and Nani though.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

My God there's literally nothing there. Considering we spent £15m for Allen, etc, to build a CL challenging team they'll need at least 10 times that at least which is the first £150m gone.

And then you've only ended up with a team of Joe Allens. To get the x factor in that will be another £100m for 3 players max (if they even want to come).

If all of the above happens for £250m then its still a new squad (see Spurs). Manure are screwed for a few seasons yet.
              One tit for another.

My valuations were largely based on the fact that United never seem to get ripped off and typically get about twice what a player is worth

They have 80 odd million kicking it's heels in the bank so they are not short of a few bob, not enough for a squad rebuild though!

Let's be honest if they got in a couple of really good central midfielders then they would be much closer. That is the position they haven't strengthened for years and Felliani is not the answer.

for all his cuntishness, dbf isnt stupid and must have seen the sky growing darker, the end of days approaching. he has got out on a high just before it all came tumbling down. im sure dbf could have done a bit better with this pile of ****e. rvp being out is a massive blow as last year they were more route one to the front man than they have been for years. moyseh not keeping on the dbf backroom team was a massive **** up from moyseh, and now the house of manure will fall.

I disagree. DBF walking out of a sinking ship is the cuntiest thing he could do. He is cunt of a person

well, he had to go some time. he had rebuilt/refreshed his team many times over and must have known what was around the corner. the refusal of moyes to take the backroom staff on must have hastened the demise of rvp, and so the cracks all open up at once.

I'm convinced Ferguson will be quietly revelling in this. It'll highlight what a great job he did. I bet he can't wait until the newspaper talk of his return begins. It will play to his immense ego and he'll lap it up.

I'm hoping that's a thing of the past.
