Tony Gale was on Sky earlier and they were seriously discussing whether Carrick should play centre half for England at the world cup.

My fave too. Wins the ball on top of everything else and is a little bit square on goal so has to create the curve unnaturally

it's a good finish, no doubt about it - spots keeper of his line, long way out, he hits a half volley well and he's done him

i'm someone who actually backs rooney despite how much i hate him...because he's so overrated, i find too many people slag him off and says he is **** when personally (whilst he isn't world class and isn't close to the top 10 in the world) i still do think he's quality footballer.

that said - the volley albeit a good strike and audacious, the keeper has had a ****ing mare - he's all over the place and like the alonso one - both whilst great efforts should have been saved.

thats why for me the beckham or suarez ones are better....they were inch perfect, weighted perfect, directed perfect and a cm one way or the other, or slightly softer/harder - they would not have gone in

            Absolutely spot on.

It was a great effort, but the keeper should have easily saved it. Yet because it's Rooney, England's "greatest ever player", it's touted as the best piece of footballing ever to be witnessed.

              I saw that too!

They showed one clip of him wandering out of defence, into midfield and playing it in to Rooney. They then went on about how great to have a ball playing defender and showed the exact same clip as another example.

One clip, one pass in a game against West Ham and Sky are talking about it in a serious tone as if this was what was on the lips of every England fan up and down the country (but mainly in the south, obv).

                He was nowhere near it

He slipped because he had to dive for it

It reminds me a bit of the recent 'Januzaj for England' campaign.

Journo asks Bodge if he would pick him for England, Bodge babbles in his trademark wishy-washy incoherent fashion and then the headlines for the next two weeks are whether the 'best young player ever since Giggs/Rooney/Sharpe/Chadwick/Obertan' will be England's saviour.

Of course panic stations will be resumed if/when Citeh give them a pasting.

On another note, how sweaty was Moyes in his presser?

I liked his line "I think we need to show our level and I think we've shown our level."

Per Sturridge, watching that back again, it really is astounding. Running at an angle, ball comes over his shoulder, he can't have had much more than a quick look and then lobs it perfectly with his wrong foot. (Think he's right footed, no?)

That is a truly astounding goal. Did it even get goal of the month on MOTD?

I'm feeling tonight's game is the football equivalent of an AA meeting:

                      "I'm a Liverpool fan and I...want....Manchester United....to...WIN A FOOTBALL GAME"

                      (applause in the room)

Regardless of the help a City win gives us, I just don't want United to win.

My head says a City win would help us, but my knee-jerk heart led reaction is "stuff those scum c**ts".

Nah, I'm fully behind United this evening. Although they're bound to get thrashed.
                          Oh I don't know.

Just imagine though. They can get all excited because they think they've turned the corner.

Then get disappointed all over again.

                                Why enjoy it only once?
