I said it a while ago but it's good planning from them. Obviously they hoped he'd be a success but if he wasn't and he did terrible which was a
distinct possibility then with that clause they could get rid and the new man coming in would have zero pressure because he's not taking over from Fergie.

If they insist on inserting the same clause into the next manager's contract then as a potential manager I'd be thinking that there's a good chance United might not qualify for the CL next season.
