He will have to blow a lot in wages to get the players even interested in coming to a mid table club without Champions League football. The mercenary type players that typified the early Abramovich / Sheik Mansour eras will be the standard fodder.

I reckon they'll challenge for a top 4 place next season. They won't be having many distractions bar domestic cups. If he's given a 2 year contract, he'll be putting all the stops to ensure that they compete pretty soon!

Very, very hard to hit the ground running with as many changes as they are planning on making. Almost impossible really. Look at how Tottenham fared this season. I'd say they'll do very well to get back in the top 4 next season personally.

Rooney would be a bench player behind Sturridge and Suarez. I'm not counting Sterling as I think he's better in the diamond.
