United fans getting carried away with Hollands performance last night.

They've got to remember that Holland didn't have Phil Jones in their defence or Tom Cleverly in midfield.

          Hmmn. Another short-term fix.

Was a great player a couple of seasons ago, but seemed to struggle recently. I don't know if that's because of being in and out of the team, but he looked a liability at times.

Every Arsenal fan I know dreads it when he plays now. Club captain, but keeps getting pushed aside for Das Mert and Koscielny.

Just looked on Wiki, and he played 14 games for Arsenal last season. Hardly going to be a loss for them.

Not quite the big name the Manc fans wanted is it?

Fits in perfectly with Smalling and Jones then!

                    Vermaelen is awful

****ing hell, he's horrendous. Perhaps Van Gaal thinks he's amazing from when he was back in Holland or something.

Could be £10m according to the MEN! ****ing hell, what a deal for Arsenal if true.

He's no great shakes over the last couple seasons, albeit injury-hit, but I suspect his bluff was called.
Probably went in to Arsene demanding guaranteed first team football to go with his captaincy, plus more money with a new contract, and he's been called on it. Think Arsenal will no doubt need someone in now, and could probably do without that headache, but I assume he knows he's giving up CL football, and is now just too pig-headed to call off a move to ManU.

All club bias aside it is indicative of where they are as a club these days. What's happened to the 30m signings of Hummels, Strootman etc? They, like we did/are doing, are trying to do it on the cheap. They are now severely limited in who they can attract to their club and I reckon this is the first of many underwhelming signings this summer.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has agreed a deal in principle to join Manchester United this summer.

United must now agree a fee with Arsenal after the World Cup, but Vermaelen hopes to move to Old Trafford and is preparing to leave the Emirates.

Central defender Vermaelen only has one year remaining on his Arsenal contract and has found himself pushed out of manager Arsene Wenger’s first-choice team by Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
