I think both Benteke and Kane are really good players but neither have played in a top team or been judged by the standards of a top player in one which makes it hard to know exactly how good they really are. Neither strike me as obviously in a different league to Bony who went for what £25m?

It's hard to value him. For £40m you'd expect someone with blistering pace that defenders can't deal with or amazing South American skill, but he has neither of those. He's always reminded me of Kuyt (which is why I like him ), but is probably a better finisher and that always adds £££'s to the value.

Be interesting to see how he does next year when he's not an unknown quantity, wouldn't be surprised for him to have second season syndrome like Townsend.

Don't think Shearer was particularly renowned for either, but he scored lots of goals, and that's what matters most with a striker imo.

Think that's the attraction of Kane. Whether he'll keep it up is another question, a big one too.

Think Kane may go on to be a pretty good striker. Think his best quality, outside of his finishing, is his reading of the game. For such a young player he makes some really clever runs and by doing so he knows that guys like Eriksen will find him time after time.

He is the type of player that our own Coutinho would love to have playing in front of him imo.


Kane is not too shabby when it comes to being the recipient of more direct play either.


I don't think he will repeat his goal output of this season again next season, but think he could be a regular 1 in 2 man for Spurs as his career goes on, and have a feeling he would do likewise if he went to a better team.

I can't help but think he's benefitting from the surprise effect, teams haven't known much about him and not set up specifically to stop him, much the same as when some strikers have made the step up from the second tier after promotion and banged in their best ever haul - like Andy Carroll, Marcus Stewart or Kevin Phillips, or even Heskey in the 2000/01 season.

I think he'll score goals, but he'll never match this season and will probably end up being a 10-15 a season man tops.

At least Shearer had youth team pedigree and set records right up to his full season debut and onwards. I'm glad he never joined the Mancs.

And how exactly would they have to specifically set up to stop him?

He is not a very pacy player that can be countered by sitting deeper.

He is not a skillful player that would require man marking.

He is not a powerhouse player that needs to be met like for like.


What he does well are the basics of the game, and he appears to have above average positional sense along with good finishing. He also appears to be the sort that works harder to compensate for any short comings in his game.


I don't think he is ever going to be an amazing player who will repeat this season's return over and over, but as said in my earlier post it would not surprise me to see him develop into a 1 in 2 striker if he stays in teams of the level of Spurs or better.


Could see him possibly turning into a Kuyt type player but one who has a better goals to games return in England than Kuyt did. Although I suspect that Kuyt might have had a better goal return for us if he had not been played in a wide role s often as he was.

For every Michael Owen that bangs in goals at youth level you get a Neil Mellor that bangs in goals at youth level and also at reserve level.
