            Surely that is tapping up if Man Utd and the player have agreed terms but they haven't made an offer to Barcelona yet
            The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                I think it happens a lot. Club approach player to see if it's a goer and informally agree terms etc, club then bids

                    I know, but you might as well not have the rule if hardly anyone takes any notice of it.

                        With that said, Barca are one of the worst clubs for tapping players up so they probably won't make much fuss when someone does it to them.

                            Its not tapping up. A club asks peemision to talk to player they allow and if they agree terms then the two clubs go into negotiations regarding fee and structure of payment. They wouldn't go through all the trouble and negotiate for a month or so, only for the player not willing to move..

                            As much as we all hate them, there's nothing wrong with what they did there
